2010 Motobane Sprint Assembly (Bikes Direct)
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
Assembling a Motobecane from www.bikesdirect.com. This is a 2010 Motobecane Sprint bike. From what I can tell the assembly of the Motobecane Vent Noir and Motobecane Record is pretty much the same. The bike was more put together than what the website actually described. The only thing that needed to be adjusted was the rear dérailleur. From start to finish it took about 45 minutes (That includes unboxing) The hardest part to put on was the front brakes because there is not much room to turn the allen wrench. Someone with a little mechanical experience could probably knock this out in 20 to 25 minutes (I put about 20 miles on the bike today and no problems)

Nice video. I just bought a bike from Bikesdirect and will probably be doing this soon. What do you use to lube/clean your bike? You seem like someone who would take good care.

After having the bike serviced the first time, knock on wood, I haven't had any issues with. I would rate the bike from a value perspective 9.5 out of 10. I would rate bikesdirect probably a 8.5 just based on their website leaves a lot to be desired and the manual that comes with the bike is just a generic manual.
-
so how do rate the bike? how do you rate bikes direct? interested in the motodecane grand detour vs trek 1.5

I ordered size 54

Mine is supposed to be arriving tomorrow. really excited to get back on the road with the weather finally turning around. What size frame did you go with?
-
I keep hearing nothing but positives about bikes direct. I'm looking to make the jump to a full carbon frame road bike with Ultegra components and I might get it from them. Their prices can't be beat.
-
Yeah it does come with instructions. They are pretty generic, but pretty easy to follow. You don't need anything special, just some allen wrenches and some standard hand wrenches to put the pedals on with. I don't remember having to screw anything in so I don't think you need a screw driver. The quality on these bike is very good, especially the wheels, they have held true for almost 3 years.

does this come with directions on assembly? does it tell you what tools are needed to put the bike together?

Umm... how long did it take you for you to get your bike ? because im really thinking about ordering it since it cheap there... but if it takes long i would probably just buy it at a near by bike shop... please let me know ^^

I just ordered the 2011 Record and was wondering what you did with the 4 black things. They almost look like caps for something but I can't figure out what. What did you do with those?

Motobecane look like good Bicycles I was going to buy One that had everything I wanted so there would have been little up grading but do Not waste Your time a bikes direct because they do Not take money orders and they process credit cards through that 4th party Internet virus called paypal which Is like a dobe they are a screwed up Internet Interference company that can Not do a damn thing right.

This is pretty awesome bike

Do people make fun you because you don't have a Trek or Specialized etc???

Just got this bike and had to adjust a few things. Limits, front derailleur height, brake alignment, brake toe-in, other than that the wheels are true. The Wellgo pedals that came with it, they suck, I'm replacing them with Look classics. I also have Shimano m540's, which are great SPD pedals. Replacing the saddle with a Selle San Marco concor. I'm okay with the handlebar, although a lot of people don't like the crazy ergo shape. It's kind of a short reach too. Also, lightly grease all cables.
-
@bryongaskin I would as well. Mine has been great. I changed out the saddle to a Specialized Toupe and put on Ultegra brakes. It has been great.
-
@bryongaskin I have the same issue. What did you decide to do with the extra spacer? Leave it on or take it off? Thanks!

@jpete3027666 Please find me a higher or equal quality bike to the motobecane at any LBS website. I looked, and nothing could touch bikesdirect for the price. Granted, I got a $500 cyclocross bike. I couldnt build the bike myself for their price. The shifters themselves are $150.

Still liking the Sprint? I ordered one of these today.
