www.pvbike.com (310) 377-7441 Steve Bowen brings you another 2013 Specialized road bike, the Sirrus! It's a hybrid bike, meaning it is designed for casual riders that can be ridden on roads, or even on some dirt trails. It's got an aluminum hydroformed frameset, made out of aircraft grade aluminum. By using hydroforming, Specialized has been able to create unique shapes that lend to the strength of the bike. The Sirrus has a wide range of gears to choose from enabling the rider to select the most appropriate for the terrain. Zertz inserts are placed in the carbon front fork for reduced road vibration, which makes the bike comfortable and leaves you less fatigued over long rides.

I have the 2011 Sirrus Elite and have put more that 5000km on it in 3.5 years. It weight is 25 lbs or 11.3kg. I ride it more like a road bike. Avg speed I like to ride at is 28-30 KPH for 60-100km. I love this bike. It is stiff like a road bike and therefore feels like a road bike when you ride it. That means it is not a soft ride. I keep my tires inflated to 100psi the top end of the range for the stock tires. If you drop that to 75psi then the bike has a much softer ride but then i lose power output. As cbr9927 said it has a "harsh feel" that is because it is a performance hybrid. It rides and feels no different that any other road bike.

I bougth this and returned it for a Crosstrail. The ride of the Sirrus is very harsh and I felt every bump on the road.

WHY IS THE HEADING SIRRUS IF THIS BIKE IS AN ELITE ?

Like I said I have ridden both of them. The Crom-moly fork feels ok. The main differance I found is the gearing. It really is VERY smooth. Much smoother than the 2012.You dont even feel the gear change. Otherwise after riding it for everyday for 2 months they are identical.

I'm not sure I like the 2013 changes. The loss of the carbon fork is a big deal to me. Tiagara for the rear derailleur may be a little better than Alivio. But is Sora really any better than Acera? (they are both decent entry level components for road or mountain bikes respectively) Finally, the Acera crankset on the 2012 model is quite solid. Low end FSA cranks like the temp seem to be unversally panned.

After riding my m8's 2012 i bought the new 2013 version. They have changed the Spec, there is no carbon front fork. They changed it to a cro-mol model. I don't feel the difference of the front between the 2 but they may come into it on longer rides. But they have moved the money "backwards". They have dumped the Shimano Acera for Tiagra on the front+back derailers. They even up'ed rapids to Sora & Crank/Chainsets changed to FSA tempo. You don't feel the gears change it's that smooth so I like :)
