2016 BMW K 1600 GT Sport Motorcycle Review - Sport Touring bikes are my personal favorite at the moment for the types of roads and riding that I primarily do. I ride mostly one-up, so that certainly factors in to what I look for when buying a bike vs. what's best with a passenger. The K1600 is an all around fantastic bike, and something you need to ride and try before you buy, if you are thinking it's like others in the class. The best way I can sum this up is a cross between an FJR and an F6B. However it moves FAR better than the F6B, just keeping the overall body feel at low speeds and electric like pull. It loves to be revved so don't be afraid to treat it like a screamer! Also make sure you try the regular vs. the sport. I found the included Comfort Seat to be hands down the most comfortable I have ever rode on, yet the included windscreen would be tossed the moment I got it home. Thanks for posting and providing valuable observations. Here is some engineering background:
Tire nipples? You mean valve stems? (Relax, close enough)
Oh yes, I`m sure they engineered some vibration into the brake pedal. I would have done the same. Only on the right side. And for fun, one of the headlights, too. What do you think the design frequency was they are going for? 50Hz? Pedal probably doubles then as an emergency radio. Vibration noticed by laymen are design flaws that could loosen some bolts at the wrong time, fatigues metal and the rider. It`s a safety problem.
Mirror stems are mounted flexibly to hide some undealt with vibrations. If they are that soft, that`s what you get. Yeah, another engineering fault, mirrors of limited clarity and field. It`s not like optics wasn`t known since way before Galileo`s time (1610). I`m sure BMW can catch up soon. -
I was bored until you thrashed it, and what a noise!

rear brake pulse is because of linked brakes. You do not need to use the rear brake as when you pull on the front brake lever is also brakes the rear wheel. Well at least it is on my 2011 GTL.

Overpriced, gadget heavy, uncomfortable seat, high cost of ownership, no thanks. I'll be keeping my bulletproof ST1300 for quite a while.

is this bike "boring"? I'm looking for a interstate commuter type bike (2hr one way), but i don't like FJR type sport tourers. I rode my buddy's FJR and it was just boring and seemed like a "straight line" bike. The K1600 GT seems like it might be the same. I think i would like the comfortable ride and wind protection and smooth ride, but I'm kinda leaning more toward the Ducati multi 1200s (saw your video on that one too). What is your recommendation?

Im a bit nervous about the amount of electronics. I would hate to think of fixing it all after ten years when it starts breaking down.

A very nice detailed and real-world review. BTW the front suspension isn't telelever (like the boxers) it's duo-lever (on the K's) itself a derivative from Hossack (an English) design.

It does sound like a BMW straight 6 in an older M3! Gorgeous sounds.

Selling my F6B for one of these. Nice review.

FOr the BMW 2012 K1600GT what is the best cruising RPM for the bike? Cannot find it anywhere in the book and such a wide range. 3,000RPM, 2500RPM? Would love best mileage out of the bike but nothing that will "hurt it" or make the engine wear faster, start knocking sounds, etc...
-
I'm looking into getting the K 1600GT from any year between 2012-2015. I've been doing a lot of research and have one question before I decide on coming into purchase or order a bike from you all. What is the best cruising RPM for this bike that allows best fuel economy while crusing? I see it can get up to 52MPG at 55MPH but at what RPMs? Can you cruise at 2500 RPM safely and not "hurt" anything or does this bike require higher RPMs for long road trips? V/r, Scott USAF Veteran

Tire presure monitor sucks big time!! Very inaccurate...they're all like that...it's a factory thing and they're not to be relied on!!
BMW seats are nortoriously horrible as far as all day comfort...none of them are very good for an all day ride, but tolerable, overall they make awesome motorcycles!!
By the way...trying to change engine "modes" while you're moving does nothing...it only functions when the bike is stopped regardless of what the screen says.
Nice review bro!! -
"The seat is heavenly". NOT!
I have this bike and the seat will kill you after about an hour on it. I had mine redone by a custom seat shop, and now it's heavenly. -
Great Review......liked the 'sound:
.why are talking FJR' all the time?...we were understanding that BMW 1600 was absolutely
the fastest production bike now.....over Haya' and Aprilia etc.... -
That was a very helpful review, I need to check out more of your test rides, great stuff.
cheers

The keyless system is easily fooled by a range extender for the key signal. Also on youtube there is a video of a guy with a range extender in his pocket sitting in a road restaurant near people who just parked a car with keyless system while his mate is on the parkingplace standing next to their car with keyless entry. He can enter and start the car without any problem, so keyless shit, no thanks. I suppose this is the same with the k1600 keyless system.

Your comment about the mirrors vibrating/moving: I have the GTL, same mirror set up. I do not have the issue you refer to.

This or the goldwing Valkyrie 2015?

You sound like Brian Glen from Cigar Obsession (which is a compliment -- big fan).
