See prices and order: https://www.bikesandlife.com/collections/brompton The Brompton bike S-type handlebar is a very popular option for folks who are used to sitting in a lower position on their bikes. This is similar to a road bike or a mountain bike where your hands are at the level of or below your waist. There's more weight on your hands but you are able to be in a more aerodynamic riding position compared to the M-type or H-type Brompton. This series of videos goes over how to pick the right Brompton bike handlebar so that you can enjoy riding every day in comfort. Hey Peter, I'm looking into buying a Brompton. I'm changing jobs and was thinking of going to work by train and ride my Brompton back home in the evening (28km). Which handle bar type would be the best you think? I was thinking either M or S, but I prefer the looks of the S. However comfort is more important than looks.
I also wanted to ask you what your take is on alternative/after market gearing. I did some investigation and Sturmey Archer also has an 8 speed hub which fits the Brompton rear train without modifications, however it does weigh 800grams more than the 6 speed hub+derailler setup. Which is quite a lot. Another option although very very expensive would be a 14speed Rohloff hub with a custom rear train made by a company in the UK. -
Hey I found Peter from Nycewheels!

No love for the P bars? I find that they give the best of both worlds - on the tops you are somewhere between the M and H positions (a little forward of both), while on the bottom you are slightly below the S position (again a little further forward). I probably spend 90% of my riding time on the tops, but it's nice to get down out of the wind or to pull yourself up a hill on the bottom position from time to time. The only thing to watch out for is the fact that you don't have quick access to the brakes when on the bottom position. The only other downside is that you add a little extra weight.
