2017 Enzo Folding Ebikes at Interbike (Gates Belt Drive, Mag Wheels, Mid-Drive Folding, Hydraulic)

ENZO eBike was showcasing its latest folding electric bike models at Interbike this year including ones with cast Aluminum mag wheels and optional belt drives. These bikes have always stood out to me because they utilize rust-resistant hardware, like titanium screws, to reduce the impact of saltwater environments for people who have yachts or like to travel and ride near the ocean or seas. Additionally, they use a wide variety of paint colors and offer a unique glow in the dark quality (that I have yet to test). I spoke with the founder, Vincent Tamburello, about what makes his e-bikes unique and he pointed out the sturdy solid wheels, integrated seat post pump (many people put Slime into their tires to help slow flats then use the pump to keep them going until they can do a full replacement), a rust proof chain, titanium bolts (since people put wet towels or coolers on the back). Vinny is from Florida and he’s close to the beach so he really feels strongly that his bikes should be designed with rust risistance in mind. My girlfriend Monica liked the metallic gold color and softer saddles offered with these bikes. I appreciated the locking ergonomic grips and integrated USB charging port at the base of the display console. The bikes offer both pedal assist and throttle mode. Not only do they offer belt drive but he’s using Gates Carbon CDX which is designed to stay on track and tends to just be higher quality than some competing offerings I’ve seen. His bikes use Samsung batteries and 8Fun hub motors, both name-brand higher quality. The final product we were shown was a new mid-drive powered folding electric bike using a 350 watt Bafang mid-drive that helps to balance weight. Both wheels offer quick release and have a new three-bar cast wheel with bladed “spokes” that look awesome. It also has hydraulic disc brakes which is pretty fantastic for a folding ebike with 20” wheels.

Nice. They look to be bulky when folded

There is no such thing as Aluminum Mag wheels......they would be aluminum. Quit calling wheels MAG for magnisium wheels.
Magnisium would be very porous and expensive......even if they were painted they would be expensive. -
Note that the 2017 mid-drive does not have a throttle. The double kickstand is really sturdy.

I was able to snag the 2017 ENZO Ebike with the Bafang mid-drive motor-- the actual white one in the video! Vinny says I am the first person in the U.S. to own this bike. I needed a folding Ebike that I could lift by myself and store in my car to take to Grant's Trail and similar tame adventures. Since we don't have hitches on either of our cars, transportation of a non-folding Ebike would pose a problem, and I needed the pedal assist for my knees. The 2017 model is quite an improvement over the 2016. I was concerned at first that it does not feature a throttle (not mentioned in the video clip), but the 5 levels of pedal assist proved plenty powerful for charging up the hills with that mid-drive 350 Watt motor. The cadence sensor kicks right it... no delay. Maybe there are more magnets on this model? The manual has not been published yet. This is not a trail bike; it's perfect on pavement, but the chain dropped as I turned a bumpy corner and I wasn't able to finger it back on the derailleur easily. Note that it took my husband less than 2 minutes once I got it home. It's probably my lack of experience, and I easily walked it back to the car. We plan to test the fitness of the this bike with the Shimano Tourney derailleur on a 50-mile segment of the Katy Trail (Missouri)... it's mostly flat, paved with fine gravel and 237 miles long. That's one component I may want to upgrade. Court, the Katy Trail promises to enrich the Midwestern exposure of your biking adventures. Check it out!
I love the ENZO computer display, but I have to patiently rewire my aging brain in order to adapt to the trigger to shift up and the lever to shift down ... or is it the other way around? I am used to twist shifting. I am 5'8", and I think the sizing is perfect. No way does it feel like an undersized or crowded bike. It stays compact when folded with a simple bungie cord, and the handle helps hoist up the 40-something pounds. I still have to test the glow-in-the-dark feature. -
Have to say a lot of manufactures are stepping up on design...long gone are the fugly e bikes, for 2017 not really seen a 'ugh' looking bike on your videos at interbike
