This bike can do any of the hare scramble and enduro stuff you love to do. It can get out in the desert and blast through the whoops. It can go slow, it can go fast. It seems like the harder you push the suspension, the better it becomes. It’s got some sort of magical powers that seems to make you a better rider. I can’t explain how great this bike makes me feel. This bike is just okay in 1st gear gear. By the time you get to 2nd gear you are having fun, but click into 3rd and 4th and you leave earth behind. The YZ250X transports you to a place where your worries and stresses fade into the background and all that is left is pure joy and adrenaline. You start to wonder if this is a dream, or if you are really awake. It’s bliss. Yamaha made some subtle changes to their aging 2 stroke motocross bike to make this amazing machine. Gearing changes, lowered compression, an 18 inch rear wheel, and slightly softer valving in the front fork were pretty much all that was needed to make this thing work. The fact that this Yamaha 2 stroke dirt bike is so good really makes me wonder how good the Honda CR250 and Suzuki RM250 and Kawasaki KX250 would be if those manufacturers didn’t stop producing them. The best compliment I can give this bike is that when I’m riding it, I am not thinking about how the bike is going to react. I am just thinking about what's in front of me and how I am going to attack it. You just sort of trust that no matter what you do, or how fast you hit something, the bike will do the rest and make up for your weaknesses. It’s hard to explain, but it’s true!
