This is my argument in the 600 vs 1000 cc ...... Doesn't fucking matter what you say about skill level and shit, I don't care. If I want a liter bike because of the big motor then I'll go get it because this is America and that's how we do shit here. Everyone will be biased toward what they have. Just because I have a 1000 and enjoy it, I think it's the best thing ever. Do I need all that power? No. Can I safely use all that power? No. Do I have the skills to harness 100% of the bike? Hell no. Do I want all the extra power? Yes. And that's why I upgraded from 750 to 1000. Best thing I ever did. I don't care what numbers you throw at me, nothing beats the feeling of a literbike ripping your fucking arms off when you give that bitch some throttle .

I am 5,3 , and Idk about other liter bikes but i rode my friends R1 and its wayy more comfortable then my 07 zx6r it has more comfortable seat and seat height so it makes the handle bar higher then my zx6r and all the power makes it a lot smoother to ride. how ever IT IS HEAVY AS SHIT. It doesnt want to lean you have to literally turn the steering wheel to turn.

If you do not regualrly attend track days there really is ZERO reason to buy a sportbike 600 or 1000. Get a standard. By standard I mean something like an Aprilla Tuono, or a z1000, or a speed Triple, these bikes haul serious ass yet you can actually ride them all day and not be crushed. Sportbikes give zero percent more performance on the street and are actually less useable due to the extreme seating position.

If you start on a 250 your wasting your money.. unless you have absolutely NO experience on 2 wheels (Dirtbike) then go with a 600 bike.

I also enjoy the highway when the 600's have to drop a few gears to get going while I just roll on the power in whatever gear i'm in.

I liked 600's until I bought a 1000. Really no different. They can both kill you and both require some self control. The low end power of a 1000 is just better for streets. Weight is almost the same.

I'm looking at getting my first bike, I have been to numerous shops and all have told me a 250 or ninja 300 are good but I'll be back in a month or two. They tell me a 600 is ideal because it's better to start of with something you can grow into and not out of. I plan on respecting it's power and not be a dickhead while riding. Do you think it's it's a good idea? To start off with a 600?

This "great debate" comes down solely to the individual, If you are an alpha dog and want to kill the streets and burn the cops, get 1000cc. If you're a bit of a pussy and "can't see yourself or anyone else handling that kind of power" get a 600cc.

Another thing here in SA you will ALWAYS find L bikes, no one wants them, for every shop with 10 L bikes you get 1 600, (then it is gone in a week) re sale on a L bike is harder. And funny they sell for the same price! Serious. Even the Yamaha dealer said they cost the same 2nd hand

Try a 1000 cc and you will NEVER want to go back on a 600. I have a zx9r, its my 2nd bike and it is brutal, I love it and it is very agile around corners. Plus, on the highway at 100km/h I am at 4500 rpm, while a 600cc would be at 6000 rpm. Obviously it is more powerful, but if you feel confident on the bike and ride safe then why not get a bike this big?
The thing is, my bike as 145 hp while todays 1000cc have around 170-180 hp for the same weight. Today's bikes are obviously faster, so keep that in mind.
If you feel 600cc is too low for you but 1000cc is too high, then I would suggest you get a GSX750, a good bike according to reviews and more suitable for everyday riding than a 180hp supersport (the GSX750 has around 155hp). -

rode an R6 for years. progressed to R1 a couple years ago as the R6 is a little small for me, as far as physiacal size goes. it had more than enough power, but i'm 6'1, so the R1 just fits me better.

I am thinking of upgrading to a liter bike, for the simple fact that it has been a dream bike of mine for a while. The CBR954RR is a beautiful bike (in my opinion) and I know I have not out grown a 600 by any means. But I have learned the lesson in power on my 1988 CBR600 Hurricane. I am 6ft 1in but the 600s fit fine. I weigh 260lbs and the power never lacked (90hp). So if you are a first time rider, stick with a 600, you will only get yourself killed on the 1000.

I don't ride road bikes, but if i have the choice i would go for a 750 or like a 899.I've learned from doing motocross is that my 450's power just isn't usable all the time and its heavy but my friends 250 4t is light but the power just isn't enough, so a 350 would be perfect.

The very first bike I ever road was a 1600 Suzuki Boulavard and I did fine. After that I rode my father in-law's harley sportster 1300 for a year and then hit the MSF course and got my license. I then rode his harley for another season and am looking to get either a GSXR-1000 or a CBR1000r for my first bike. I'm not gonna deal with buying a bike that is too small power wise or ergo wise. I'm 6 foot 3 and feel a litre bike would be best. I have ridden pretty much all the 600cc class and seems small. As long as you're smart about it and responsible. I think the GSXR-1000 would be a good route to go (specially 07 and up) because it has the different modes on it. You can put it on "C-Mode" and basically ride a "600cc". When you get used to that, bump it to "B-Mode" (750cc). And after that "A-Mode" (full power). Before I ever rode a bike everybody told me to start on a 250cc. My brother, only rode dirtbikes (which is completely different), was asking me about 600cc and if he would be okay starting on that. I told him yes as long as he takes it easy on it. Got it last season and he is already bored with it. Now he has to go through the hassle of selling, switching titles/insurance and then buying another bike. The only person who knows how you are is you. Don't waste your time with a 250cc (unless you're restricted to it per the law). Again I never rode dirtbikes, only fourwheelers, and I started on a 1600cc bike. Took it up and down a driveway a couple times and then hit the blacktop. Four miles one way and four miles back (on a curvy road). Felt completely comfortable. I was taking turns without even thinking about it. I had watched countless videos on youtube on how to counter-steer and stuff like that to where it was second nature. Again go with what you feel you can handle.
