80cc Huffy motorized bike." Home Made Moped" from a kit.

Home made moped made with a Huffy Cranbrook Cruiser I got on clearance fron WalMart for $45 and an 80cc 2 stroke manual clutch single speed engine I got from e-bay for $107. After this video was made I attached front & rear lights which ran from the engine (A 6V #W dynamo/generator light set. I didn't use the generator, but instead attached to the white wire from the engine. When the engine was on so were the lights) I also fitted a digital speedometer. Best speed attained was 52kph (just over 30mph) and it would always manage 50kph (30mph) It did about 75 miles to the 1/2 gallon tank of gas, so about 150mpg. I put about 2500 trouble free km's on it then I sold it. Since then I have built dozens of them, which I sell on Craigslist after using them for a couple of weeks to make sure there are no bugs.

I'm contemplating the Huffy just like this, for my own motorized bike project. But I'm wondering how it would handle the terrain here. I specifically want to ride it on the gravel roads. Is it ride-able on gravel, or is it only a smooth surface machine?

sweet looking cruiser bike.

I took the dust cap off for the brake and it slid right on.

how did you mount the rear sprocket on over the coaster brake did you have to file the hole to fit ?
-
It's a coaster brake bike that I also added regular lever brakes to for more stopping power. Stopping a bike from 30mph on coaster brakes is a bit daunting. I put a dual pull brake lever on the right hand side so that both the front and rear brakes operate off of the right hand lever and the clutch operates off of the left lever. That way you avoid the problem of having a clutch and a brake lever both on the left. At lower speeds I use just the coaster. At higher speeds I can use all brakes

Is this a coaster bike?

I just had a small local exhaust shop do it.
-
Let me know how it goes.
-
Yes I do. I used a 2 piece BiTurbo exhaust from 1977 Mopeds and made adapted the header pipe to fit. Took it to an exhaust shop put it on outside and then had them weld the header etc. into place with it on the bike.

Cheers mate ;-)

Whether it has the name Skyhawk, Grubee or whatever else on it, they are all the same motors made in the same factories, by the same people. Skyhawk, Grubee etc. is just branding put on them for the importers into our market. The engines are all the same, only the stickers are different.

Make sure you get a centrifugal clutch, then you can put a sprocket on it and run a chain to the rear wheel same is mine. Much more effective than a friction roller.
-
im bmuilding one with a weed wacker motor any tips for that?
-
yeah it's fun isn't it.
-
holy cow my dad and i did this 2 and it was a cool project
-
Not really too hard to build. The hardest part is getting the rear sprocket on straight. Great fun to ride.
-
I want one...:)

@techboxproduction I am going to build another motor-bike soon. I am hoping to get an engine as a present from the wife and I am probably going to go for another beach cruiser, although, maybe a mountain bike would be good too. The first bike I built was a mountain bike.
