This exercise is from "Scissors," the 3rd phase of training in the Abs Revealed "Rock, Paper, Scissors" approach to great abs. The slower movement and emphasis on lifting and rotating the shoulders makes this more effective than the faster, old-school version where the shoulders just rotate quickly side-to-side.
