When Adrienne went back to school and answered, "What did you do this summer?", she proudly said she learned to ride her bicycle without training wheels! Learning by a balance bicycle might have been easier, but we took the traditional path and started with a bike with training wheels (Hello Kitty). She learned to pedal and steer and generally get around with the training wheels on. As they wore out / bent up, she was forced to start balancing. Later, we took the training wheels off completely and I either ran or rollerbladed while holding her by the seat, slowly giving less assistance each day. We also practiced by having her roll down a grassy hill at the park, which allowed her to focus on balancing and not pedaling, and allowed me not to have to run so much. She eventually got the hang of it and is now training around the neighborhood in anticipation of riding to grandma and grandpa's house.
