Advice For Short Riders: Updated For 2013!
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
The first 'official' vlog I did was advice for short riders. This video updates that for 2013. If you're vertically-challenged or lack inseam and are new to riding, this video is for you! Even if you're experienced, you still might find some gems. I cover a few bikes that are good for shorter riders as well as gear (with manufacturer names). As always, I catch some great footage and interesting antics along the way. -- All sound FX are either my own work or used under the Creative Commons 0 (Non-Attribution License) from Freesound.org. Music copyrights specified at-end of video. -- Great bikes for shorter riders: Kawasaki Ninja 300. Number one choice from me, especially for short and new riders, but it's fun for experienced-riders too. Ninja 250. For years, this was it for the 250 sportbike class. A little outdated and small cc for the street/freeway, but can be found very inexpensively (used). No fuel-injection, which to me rules it out. The 300 is better (used/new). Honda CBR250R: I think it's a little small, but very short-rider friendly. I would get the Ninja 300 over this. Ninja 650: Fantastic bike, not too tall, not too expensive but with plenty of power. Parallel twin goodness. I rode the first gen, but the new gens are even better! They fixed the goofy handlebar position a few years back. GSX-R 2007+. Very low and narrow (as sportbikes go). They'll never feel like a cruiser, but sit on an R6 and then sit on a Gixxer and you will feel the difference. Yamaha R1: Odd as it sounds, my 2005 was quite narrow at the waist because Yamaha routed the frame spars over the engine. The R6 (at the time) at frame spars going around the engine, making it a lot wider/taller. Daytona 675: Not bad at all, and 10mm lower than the Daytona 675R. The 675R has been highly-rated for the past couple years and has won bike comparos for middleweights. Kawasaki Ninja 636: Not too tall and nice and narrow. Definitely one of the easier bikes to foot. Old Ninja 600s from about 2009+. Not too tall! Nice and narrow. TALL bikes: Yamaha R6, CBR600R, most Ducatis (except the Monster), etc. Relevant Links: Check out Spacep0d's new website! My new fz6r is pretty low out of the box, but it is fully lowered front and back (even bought a billet lowering link) for the back. I am only 5"4" and I am finally flat foot on a sport bike lol. Ty for the video ;-)

Hello man, I love your videos, you're a funny guy keep it up all the amazing work you're doing, by the way, I love your intro, best intro I've ever seen congrats, and I have a question, riding boots can increase my height or something? because I'd very happy if I could get 1/2 extra inches with boots
-

your thoughts on the daytona 955i? The dealer is willing to shave off 2cm (about an inch) off the seat (man it's making the seat harder) - I am about 5"6, i seam 31". Will lifters in a boot make a difference at all or is the bike too tall for me. I cannot flat foot the bike, and use ball of one foot only
-
dude, thank you for this. I just got my cbr 600 f4i. I needed this advice so bad.
-
Hi there, I'm at the same height and riding the same bike as yours. Thank you very much for the recommendations in this video.
-
I went to a Honda dealer today and i wasn't able to put both legs down except for my left leg on a Honda cbr250r lol. (i'm 5'5 btw lol)

Idk about the Daytona 675, I'm 5'6 and I'm tip toes on mine. My friend's R1 isn't really any better.
-
I'm looking to buy a cbr f4i 04 for my first bike. I'm 5'8" and I can't touch the ground flat footed. Should I look for something else or what should I do???????
-
Dude, you kick ass! I feel a lot better about being a short rider! =D
-
At 5'3, are you able to foot the 300?
-
I am also 5"3 and it was really hard to find gear and gear that fit since I'm a woman as well haha! The only shops closest to me don't have much of a selection. Tempted to get some gear that fits a little better. I didn't realise my inside leg is 28 until a while after I got my trousers haha! So is it possible to go custom and not get a suit? It's just I have a commuter road bike and use it to go to uni everyday so a sport suit wouldn't be ideal. I've read comments about revzilla. Might give them ago, since I can always exchange if I don't like XD

@Shawn n: Don't know if this reply will reach you since I'm guessing you don't have a G+ account for me to reply to you. But yeah, I wear a 38 Euro and in American sizes I wear a Size 7. They do stretch a bit over time since it's genuine leather. If you normally wear a 7.5 then yeah you're in-between sizes, so I am not sure if a 38 or 39 is appropriate for you. Thankfully, I first tried them on when I still lived near Helimot, so it was easier to find my size.

Hey I just purchased a pair of the Daytonas. The only video review that mentions special sizing said that they run a size large. I wear a 7.5 US shoe, so I was in a weird spot for ordering the M-Star. The smallest size they have is a 40 which is a 8.5. If they run a full size large, I would have been swimming in them. The lady star has all the way down to a 35, so I ordered a Lady star in a 38 (6.5 US), hoping they fit like a 7.5. Did you notice they fit a little larger than anticipated or were they right on?
