Amsterdam cyclists during rush hour
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
It takes only 5 minutes to show the behaviour of some cyclists, pedestrians and cars in Amsterdam. They all can take an example of the Amsterdam pigeon, trying to pass the intersection during the green light (1:05). filmed by Nienke Laan (www.nienkelaan.nl) edited by Aart Knuivers inspired by Ron Gabriel (see the video of an intersection in NYC on http://vimeo.com/24572222 or his blog on http://blog.ronconcocacola.com)

Cruising in Amsterdam at the rush hour with our bikes for the first time weren't an easy task, but a great and happy experience!

The usual controlled chaos, just imagine the same kind of throughput but then only cars. Oh wait...you don't have to imagine, just look at the utter congestion in just about every other city in the world, outside The Netherlands and Denmark (Kopenhagen especially). This way is better...and not just by a little. :)

The bird! The bird did it! hahahaha beautiful :D

a lot of people coming from the car side on the right probably came from a traffic light out of sight. not everyone is going to ride in a square if it could be a curve...

Hey my crossing! Very normal, most people wait and aim to get to the right corner when crossing the green light. A few impatient people don't and are considered morons by everybody else. What is more interesting is that everybody local, cyclists, drivers, motorist are all aware of each other and also anticipate many (mostly common) moves. As a long time cyclist I can tell if somebody wants to turn left simply by a minor shoulder movement.
A second trend in Amsterdam nowadays is for less busy crossings to abolish its traffic lights alltogether - the shared space principle - and it works surprisingly well. Everybody pays attention and people are - to everybody's surprise- not insanely rude to each other. -
This isnt dangerous at all there are rules in the netherlands, you know?
-
Nothing special going on.

People that are upset that he or she circled the people or cars shouldn't be so upset. I understand that some of you "do this all the time" but you shouldn't. Cyclist need to be predictable when on the road and shouldn't feel entitled to do whatever they want just because you chose to ride a bike. That is what motorist did and now they think they own the road and cyclist shouldn't be on the same road. Rules are their for a reason and though you may think that it's ok to just run a red light or cross that street because you don't see a car coming doesn't mean you won't become road kill. Just be careful out their and don't ruin it for the rest of us.

Yeah just throw out your knowledge of traffic rules when you ever cycle in a major dutch city. It's constant anticipation and whoever comes first has the right of way, but if you grew up on two wheels it's second nature. I would be one of those opportunist cyclers you see in this video, but i never had any accident and i probably never will.

"I'm alive!" (Don Fardon, 1969), this is what I think each time I'm on my bike and see dead people in cars.
-
I hardly consider that dangerous considering the auto only infrastructure with speeding cars and 4 plus lanes many streets in the USA deal with everyday. This looks Human. Bring me home. I want to leave the USA.

Well, that goes to show that even in very well designed cities, with Law abiding educated citizens, we some impacient commuters that disregard the rules and regulations because they seem to rigorous. When in reality they are place to prevent accidents. The main thing here is none of the others were letting them have it just because they choose not to risk like the others. Moral: Calling on someone else's stupidity doesn't help you. Just stop being a hater and do what you do and let others do as long as it doesn't put you in danger...
-
and no one got hurt. Why? Because in general, people in Europe pay more attention. If they didnt, they would all be dead LOL.

-
the cars are in more danger than the cyclist lol. when your'e hitting a cyclist you have problems... so better respect bikes. even when they are totally not respectfull to you lol (i'm totally not guilty of the same behavior...) ;)
-
Most of the things shown as "dangerous" in this video aren't dangerous at all...
-
lol @ de duif , de rest is spijkers op laag water zoeken
-
really well done! i work in amsterdam as a bike messenger, this shows how dangerous amsterdam bike trafic is!
-
Didn't see any accidents as a result of people crossing when safe to do so, regardless of the light.
Don't be such a fascist!
