An interesting trend with some bicycles at Walmart

UPDATE: Seeing some of the comments on this video just comes to show how rude some bike enthusiasts really are. This was just some waste of time video I shot while picking up groceries and such at Walmart. I never intended this video to take off and become the most popular video on my channel. Otherwise I would have taken it more seriously. People seriously need to stop judging BikeGeekMTDX over one solitary video I shot in Walmart. I have been servicing bicycles (both Walmart bikes and quality bikes (such as Giant and Trek) for many many years. I am on a limited income and cannot afford the often $1000+ price tag of quality bikes from the bike shop. Otherwise, I would have them in my possession. Also, although the channel has "bikegeek" in it, this is not solely a cycling channel. "Bikegeek" was part of a longtime AOL screenname I had used for well over a decade. My first channel on YouTube was BikeGeekCCP, and contained all of my videos including PC repair videos. In December 2009, I closed BikeGeekCCP, and opened two new channels, Cube Computer Channel and this channel, BikeGeekMTDX. The goal was to separate my more popular computer tech videos from the rest of my stuff. That's why only a small portion of this channel consists of actual bicycling videos. Apparently some you don't seem to realize that I actually have much larger YouTube presence. My tech video channel Cube Computer Channel has over 10k subscribers and 6+ million views. This video was shot back when Walmart started getting into the fatbike craze. They had already been selling 27.5" variants, but when I had seen some of the other bikes, like the black 20in Mongoose, I thought it was video worthy. I don't need you to tell me that fatbikes exist. I'm well aware of what a fatbike is. It seems like Walgoose bicycles (Mongoose bikes sold at Walmart) have gotten a little obsessed with bicycle tire obesity. There are also some other bikes there nowadays with fat tires. I imagine they would give a smooth ride, ride better on sand, but I also imagine they would be heavy to pedal and wear you out quickly. When it comes to road bikes, I like my tires skinny (my Denali wears 25c tires), but on mountain bikes whatnot, I do like the tires being a little on the fat side.

It's painfully obvious how little this guy knows about bikes. Stop filming in Walmart like a hoosier and stick to your day job.

They're good bike for the money. Meaning, they are inexpensive, but good for kids who are afraid to do tricks and never will do tricks but just want to ride around.
-
Boy, it's a plus bike and a fat bike, not a real shocker
-
Fat bikes, and it's not just Walmart. Know your bikes 😂
-
fat tires have better traction. they take pressure better, which is a second suspension in itself
-
where is this walmart
-
the 24x2 inch put the front and back. together probably equal one full car tire

and by the way. the components on these bikes are compatible with way more name brand components of every level than the expensive "experts" are willing to let you know. Just do some research on what you need and you will find it for a good price and an instructional video to go with it,.

must be nice to have thousands to spend on bikes and have enough time to put in 4000 miles a year. These bikes are tested and proven off road for the average rider. Thus all the good reviews they get. Average riders are looking for a fat bike that will ride over anything and give them some adventure at an affordable price. All the guys on the internet who are downing the sale of these bikes are way above average riders who get way more into the gnarly aspect of the sport. . And all of these "epic" fails this guy is talking about are simple fixes for any average person with access to the internet. And cheap fixes. As far as the more expensive replacements(like tires) you still only shelled out 200 to begin with and that will be the very most you "might" have to put into it after market. You didn't have to shell out thousands in the beginning. Most people don't have time to put 4,000 miles a year in. They just want a decent bike to ride in the wilderness or on the beach. And shelling out 200 up front is easy for most people. Then they slowly upgrade and dont fell the painful hit of thousands coming out of their bank account. I dont doubt the quality of more expensive bikes. But it made the sport inaccessible to recreational riders. Its like golf clubs or any other sports equipment. The very high quality only starts to matter when you reach that elite level. Then the quality may give you and edge. Don't break your bank if your not an elite rider or dont intend to be one folks. Just buy one of these. Upgrade as needed and have fun for way less money

I'm building up a carbon Specialized Enduro, but I LOVE Walmart bikes. The biking industry has to face the facts. Without stores like Walmart, there'd be far fewer people on bikes. I even upgraded to a bike store bike and then went back to a Walmart bike and loved it. For people that don't ride advanced trails, an expensive bike is 99% luxury and unnecessary. Walmart bikes can last. You just need to know which bikes to buy and be willing to learn how to do your own maintenance. Though one good reason to buy from a bike store is some shops offer lifetime tuneups. That is an awesome deal.
