My 1st Liter Bike Vid - http://youtu.be/sVLql6PVnBM My 2nd Liter Bike Vid - http://youtu.be/4XH1HJhF8vc Jake's Video - http://youtu.be/7DKQdD3UDFc I want to preface this with saying that I don't think Jake's video was targeted at me at all. I also have a lot of respect for Jake and value his opinion a hell of a lot. After I commented on his video saying liter bikes are useless (linked above), he asked me to make a response video on the topic, so here it is. This is not an attack at Jake, this is simply my reason's for owning a liter bike vs a "less dangerous" bike like a 600 and why I think liter bikes ARE useful and the better bike to have depending on what you want. Got your own opinion? Think I'm nutso? Back in the early 80's I wanted to get my first bike. Numerous times I weighed the reasons for getting one at all, and about the same number of decisions on what to get. Lots of talks with other owners, and reading articles.
I settled on a Suzuki GS1100-EX, and rode it about 18K miles the first year in Southern California. Beautiful weather, lots of traffic at times, and just a great place to ride. And the fist time I white-lined, it scared hell out of me. I learned to appreciate it but never got entirely at ease doing so. Even though they are used to seeing bikes, it was still unnerving to see a big mirror, or a tight spot coming up.
It was much faster than I ever rode (got up to 118 once), and it was heavy enough and had good suspension, so taking it on a trip wasn't any concern. You arrived feeling like you had ridden the bike rather than the other way around.
Did I ever have any regrets or second thoughts? Nope. I loved it, and given the same circumstances, would do it again without hesitation.
I agree with your summation that a liter (litre?) bike is a nice ride, and like anything else it doesn't have to be ridden 10 tenths all the time. -
needs an r1 to ride 30mph in 3rd gear.

Really? What about two-up sport-touring? Try putting 600 miles on a 600cc sport bike, two-up, with full saddle bags and a tail bag. This is one of the primary reasons why I am subscribed to your channels and NOT Jake's or AK's.

it makes sense.. i get it, in reference to the power and stability.. im into good gas mileage. mpg is important to me. i want to be able to get away with murder when it comes to the pump. i hear getting the liter bike is better on the fuel consumption.. is that so?

I can care less how late I am because I'm about to roll right into my dealer and drive out with a brand new R6 hop right on the highway and shift every single gear that little sumbitch has!!! Can I get an hall yeah!!!

i know im commenting on this late, no bashes, i actually agree with you and jake. let's just say to each his own, on jake, i also watched a video telling subcribers that he's got some injuries and really in pain riding a sport bike. none the less, from my perspective you and jake are just giving advice on people who wants to get a bike. it would actually depend on the person if they want a leader or a 600 or a dirt bike just like you, i wanna say that this video is awesome! can i get a high five! and closing remarks, to each his own whatever the reason maybe! giving this vid a thumbs up!

ok im a new rider & i have an r3 my dream bike is a CBR 1000SP Fireblade my height is 5'3 160 lbs & my commute is more than 30 miles would this be a good bike for me or should my next bike be something like an R6???

Dude you sound like Snowcat
-
I like your opinion and I do support your thoughts, to the point is when I past my test my first bike was a 2010 fireblade and I have now done more than 4000 miles on it and I truly feel its the perfect bike for me in the way it feels, weight riding position etc.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on your experience. I truly believe the more "freedom" you offer yourself on the road, the more responsibility you need to take for your actions. With that said I agree with your opinions on this video. I started on a Ninja 250 then zx6r and now a zx10r. I love my bike and my riding experience. It fits like a glove for someone my size and weight.
Keep making great motoblogs! -
isn't that snowcat
-
I wouldn't trade my 99 r1 for nothing it's an awesome bike
-
I also find the bigger bikes easier to ride, more refined, safer, more stable at speed and generally just more

Liked the video minus the idea that if someone says "they only buy things that are practical" they're a liar. You're under the assumption that nobody can actually do this, but I'd say everything I own is practical I don't buy anything if I won't use purposely and frequently. Something that I think should be pointed out though is the difference in insurance on a liter bike vs. a 600/750 which is vastly higher for most people. I own a GSX-R750 great bike for everything I do commuting, fun in the twisties and the price point for insurance is great.

just get an adventure bike. you wont speed as much and they have a lot of torque

I agree with mostly what you say in your vid. I bought my ZX6R because in my heart, I knew that I could ride handle it. After a handful of rides, scooter 150cc, trail 150cc, Ninja 250cc, Triumph Rocket 2300cc (watch my vid Rocket III) and now ZX6R. I would very very happily, get a 1000cc wity no troubles and get used to it and love it, because that's my mentality. A 1000cc as you say, is not useless, it's for those who have the attitude, eperience, skill and mental attidude to ride one. Nice vid. BUT, I love my 600cc when it screams with my Devil exhaust and -1 front sprocket. Thanks.
