Ariel Atom V8 vs 600bhp rallycross Citroen DS3 vs BMW HP4 superbike drag race - autocar.co.uk

Which is faster? An Ariel Atom V8 track day toy, BMW HP4 superbike or a rallycross Citroen DS3 with 600bhp? Here we have three completely different ways of going extremely quickly in a straight line. Time for a drag race then. So what are the contenders? There's the one-wheel drive BMW HP4 superbike, which arguably requires the most skill to extract speed from but has a ludicrous 757bhp/tonne power-to-weight ratio. Then there's the two-wheel drive Ariel Atom V8 with 748bhp/tonne and the Citroen DS3 Rallycross car with only 577bhp/tonne but all-important four-wheel drive. Oh, and did we mention it's wet? What would you like to see go head-to-head in our next drag race? Let us know in the comments below New videos are uploaded to Autocar each week. Don't miss a single one. will join that race in my r1

THIS is what a Drag Race is like in England every day of the year!!!!!!
-
What I am surprised about is not the BMW (Expected, but very impressive riding in the rain), but how poorly the Atom does in the wet, and how poorly the Rallycross car does in the wet. 11.1 quarter mile for a 600HP AWD car weighing nothing? Ouch..
-
well, bike won in the rain? next time, try it with snow / ice .... bike guy will just fall on the ground, car wins! :D
-
Ryan Kelly
He might be all of those things .
He's driving a highly modified race car worth nearly a quarter of a million quid and he didn't like losing to a STANDARD road bike That's why we ride bikes -
I didn't think the bike would grip well enough to win, I favored the rally car. I guess the rider made it work! Crazy in that conditions.
-
at least put rain in the title.
-
What airfield is this?
-
that bike doing wheelies in the rain and pulling away...absolute mad man lol
-
Is the HP4 the same thing as an S1000RR?
-
faster that? why not longer than .25 mile... .25 mile heavily favors the bike... but at 5 miles, this heavily favors DS3
-
So stupid....
-
if you are drag racing and it raining please dont waste your time or ours
-
Atom was out of the game before it even started

Why are these test always done in wet conditions!!? Both the Atom 3.5r & V8 were tested in less than ideal or at least reasonable conditions. These results don't mean anything. The Atom V8 should be closer to 9.9-10.2secs in the 1/4mile in dry conditions.
I'm waiting to see the Atom V8 vs Lamborghini SV in the 1/4mile (in "Dry" conditions) -
A supped up X-games winning rallycross 600bhp car beaten by a stock bike. Haha. Sell that car and buy a donut.
-
So, in the rain the awd car is faster than the rwd car... I'm shocked(lots of sarcasm). Too bad it was raining during the filming of this video. Because of the rain this video looses most of its relevance. Of course the 200 hp bike wins in a straight line wet or dry. The question here is could the power to weight ratio of the atom over come the awd launch of Liam Doren's rallyX car? Due to the s#!tty weather in England we didn't get to find out if the v8 atom could catch the rallyX car in a 1/4 of a mile. they should have done this race here in Southern California. I bet Ken Block would have done it or even Brian Deegan.

That guy is the fittest racing driver in the world. No one on the f1 grid has even close to his fitness levels.
-
UK has the most disgusting weather in the world.

sooooo a $30,000 bike ran a 10.76@142???? My $11,000 2005 GSXR 1000, with me on it could run 10.00@142. What a waste of money for that bike!
