BBC News Why do so many Dutch people cycle
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
There are more bicycles than residents in The Netherlands. In cities like Amsterdam and The Hague up to 70% of all journeys are made by bike. This is because of a vast network of cycle paths that are clearly marked, with smooth surfaces, separate signs and lights, and wide enough to allow side-by-side cycling and overtaking. So with rising levels of obesity, high fuel prices and increasing congestion, what is stopping the UK from going Dutch?

Too help his argument, Japan has so many hills, you can't go anywhere without going through one or two major hills, people still ride bicycles, to a point becoming nuisance because the infrastructure(specially around the train stations) is so poor to bicycles.
People still ride it. -
Every time i'm in a foreign country I really need to adjust and be so much sharper, just because I'm so used to the way we deal with our traffic in the Netherlands. I love riding my bike, it's so convenient and definitely safer in my country. I wish everyone could experience that in their own country...

8:00 Completly oblivious to the much more likely danger of him keeling over with a heart attack or stroke in 10 years due to his being a car-bound fat fuckball

riding a bike to work is a privilege. I cycle to work and it is wonderful. If you can try to do it

Lived in London in the early and mid 1990's. Brought my bike and car but wat VERY easily pursuaded to take the bus... Way to dangerous back then. Perhaps dirrefent now, but people were just not used to cylists on the road; that takes time. I guess start rolling out in smaller towns where bicycles are a real alternative to cars is the best start. London etc is just too big to force if upon people; distances are bigger and public transport is so good, why even bother getting on a bike ( I had to do about 5km from where I lived to Aldwych and that was really scary most of the time in rush hour - a bus was ready every 5-7 minutes or so). As far as I'm concerned, cyles are great for everything up to about 5km; after that car.bus/moped etc. That means, small towns and local transport only. Big cities are just too big (especially in a suit or when how/cold/raining).
Just my 2 cents. -
Being someone from Amsterdam, where it's even more busier than most cities in the Netherlands, it looks so dangerous to ride your bike in the UK.
-
wait, dedicated traffic lights for bikes arent a thing outside of the netherlands???????
-
Answer: we have no hills

The city of Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, South America has achieved an excellent job in this regard. The sidewalks of all main arteries of the city have been transformed into the dual purpose. The gridlock of bikes there now during the rush hours is unbearable and becoming very dangerous for the unexperienced walkers, because day by day more and more people are getting into this bike madness and with these new folding electric bikes now, this has turned more like into a fever.

That music, oh my God hahahaha. BBC, if you where trying to give the views a typical "Dutch" feeling with that, you're at least fifty years late, that music has nothing to do with the Netherlands anymore :')

Its a crime what the auto industry has done by continuing to support any resistance to developing bike friendly infrastructure. If you build it they will come must be the objective of all sane human beings who love to pedal.

go to 3:57 and turn on the subtitles, see what "the roads and cyclepaths are wide enough" is being subtitled as.

Cities should be car free.

I have visited the Netherlands many times and lived in and traveled through cities and countries worldwide. The entire country is flat, not wiser than the rest of us. Example:China. Most mainland cities are on the plains, Bicycles everywhere. Hong Kong is all hills Bikes rare. I speak of the Chinese, who are practical to a fault. They don't drive bicycles in Beijing to stop pollution and get exercise. It is flat, and it is practical.

The bald guy is an ignorant, bigoted twat. He's talking absolute rubbish, on so many levels that I'm staggered he believes what he's saying.
-
The expression of the first guy to speak, really says "I have no idea why they're doing it, why did you hire me to say something about this again?"
-
the woman who lost her leg in the accident with the bus: that is why there needs to be Protected Bike Lanes where ever possible. Biker should be barrier separated from vehicle traffic.
-
Why is the quality of the this film so poor? Can't the BBC afford to film in HD?
-
