Beginner Bikes: Best To Start Small?
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
This video is about 28 minutes, but it was edited down from 45 minutes. I cover a lot of reasons why you should start on a small bike...or why you can just get what you want. It's a controversial topic and strong feelings abound. There's a lot of dogma surrounding this issue as well as kneejerk responses, groupthink, memes, etc. But, I pick this apart in my typical iconoclastic fashion, and with no regard for tradition. Logic pays no mind to tradition. I create a couple thought-experiments to navigate this issue, while stressing the importance of separating preference from facts. People often conflate the two based what they know of their *own* personality. I cover a lot of perspectives relating to judgement as to why you may want to start small...or just buy the bike of your dreams the first time. It really comes down to you. Watch and listen to get the full scoop of Spacep0d, and tell me what you think! Watch for the few bad drivers I profile as well. ;) Thanks for watching! Oh, tell me what you think of the new intro! I created it myself; 3D, editing, scoring (music), FX, etc. I also wrote new music for the outro. -- All sound FX are either my own work or used under the Creative Commons 0 (Non-Attribution License) from Freesound.org. Funny how many people say 300 owners get bored with their bikes easily yet many many litre bike owners get bored of theirs and downgrade to a 600. What's the point in riding a litre bike when you rarely need to shift - it's a less tactile experience and sort of like riding an automatic.

I will have to disagree. my first bike was nearly brand new 1992 FZR600. After I crashed and luckily didn't die, I was fortunate enough to experience cb250, bandit 600, cbr600f3, and cbr600rr. Had pleasure to ride friend's fireblade for 2 months while he was not in the country. One thing I wish I had when I started, I wish I had mentor who had experience and wisdom. No matter how disciplined you are, you still encounter dangerous moments. it may be caused my small mistake you might have made. it may be caused by animal in panic (or out to get motorcycle rider). it might be caused by careless driver. experienced rider will not panic and let his instinct take over. unexplained rider might panic and let his instinct take over. new rider will die either he may be riding super sports or cb250 nighthawk. however, guy on nighthawk will have a lot more forgiving motorcycle if he gets out of his panic and tries to get out of this dangerous moment.
where as guy on cbr600rr makes one small mistake like cutting power in the conner will send him highside by his angry motorcycle head first into tarmac. -
My mum said I learnt to walk before I crawled. She said I spent more time observing how walking was done, then I got up and started walking. Same thing happened when I learnt to drive. Watched my mum drive for a year when I was 6. When I was 7 seven she asked if I wanted to drive home from the begining of our street. So I got in and drove the car home. Been driving 30 years never crashed, I've come close but knew how to get out of trouble before trouble occurred.
I got my bike license yesterday and I want a H2. I want a litre bike cause I know I handle it cause I learnt how to drive a bike within 10mins I knew how to quickshift, stop at speed, rv match and by the 30 min mark I recovered from two potential high sides when I leant over too far and my backend came out.
I wanna grow with my litre bike. The 250 I was learning on was fun but I do a lot of highway driving and it's just too small for me. Cruisers scrape and I like to lean. I did my test on a naked and didn't like it.
I don't have a bike yet but will record every day I ride my litre bike as my first bike to prove to the naysayers that it's fine to learn on if you are competent. -
Since USAF didn't pay much, and I'm not rich, my first Street bike was a Yamaha XS1100 Special. I found that in the long run, I rather grow into a bike, than out grow one.

i started on a 99 cbr 900rr

I am the one who bought a bike without knowing about them! Well, now I know how I do not want my next bike to be! I also know what you meant about long videos in your motovlog guide!
-

nicely said buddy!

Wow, lane splitting on a Beginner Bikes vid, I thought you'd want to teach SAFE riding techniques on a vid like this, not squiddy BS. Don't try to justify 1000cc for a beginner, thats also BS, that is WAY too much, you're gonna get someone killed..
Your logic is flawed in general: saying (essentially) "Some people are stupid, why can't I start on a big bike?!" is stupid. -
gonna watch the whole video, however you didnt mention one more thing, in the USA, insurance is DIRT CHEAP.
In canada it is RIDICULOUSLY expensive. My dream bike is probably a gsxr 600 or zx 6r...but if insurance is going to be hard to find or cost upwards of 5-6k a year.....im not gonna bother till i have more experience, and am over 30 years old, that way insurance is high but affordable. -
I learned ride bicycle at 6 y old age, car and motorcycle at 12 , but my first motorcycle I bought couple weeks a go at 35 , so I choose for cruise style, I love cruise style, I took a 2003 honda shadow ace 750 =) so I want buy some more bikes in the future, like 2000 and something honda magna , another those sport style like yours, dirty style one and ducati hypermostard 1100 =) also build my garage shop =) dreams dreams and dreams =) for now, I just want a good helmet with nice go pro 2 with nice setup =)

Well said about the choice of bikes. one thing I would recommend, is get what you want, but get something cheap first, that way, if you waste it, or you dont care about taking care of it less loss. In any event, great vid, thanx a lot!

Sadly I am not a rider yet. It is my plan to change that in the near future. I will say I have a curiosity with the CBR500R abs but I have a concern about fitting. I'm a some what larger fellow. 275-ish lbs (working on that) 6'-3". Is that a problem I should be thinking about?

Mad respect for mentioning mental condition on a ride. Not many mention that subject. Your mind set plays the biggest role on the outcome of your ride. Pissed off, happy (isn't always good you can get distracted or cocky), anxious (ex. interview), sad, or just being off, to list a few. great video man! You should make a video dedicated to this subject.

please stick to cars....that poor bike...shift that fucker. just because its a "sport" bike does not mean it wants to be ridden at the fucking red line......

I'm 5'8 and 18 years old and I want to get into ridding but I've never really road a motorcycle only quads in the dirt and that's about it, I was kinda wanting to get an early 2000s dirt bike and turning it into a supermoto and riding that for a while and seeing how I like it and then upgrade when I feel like I should, but here's another that isn't too big a deal but it is to me, I've never used an manual shift before, the quads that I road were semi auto so just kicking into next gear and it would do the clutch for you, so I'm just really thinking about it at the moment on what to do, this video helped me out a lot thanks 👍
