I would recommend that all first time MTB riders spend between 500-800 dollars a decent entry level bike. My buddy started with a 600 dollar Specialized Hardrock Disc brake model and really got into the sport. Was getting KOM's right and left on Strava on a 600 dollar bike. After he blew the stock fork and mechanical brakes weren't cutting it he upgraded to a Niner RDO and Specialized SJ 29er. Long story short the rider makes the bike and the other way around.

Seriously, if you're only gonna cruise around on weekends for fun or nip to the shops on them, why would you want to spend big money on a bike? The answer is, you wouldn't, so any of these bikes would be fine for that purpose. All you guys saying they're shit or that you should buy some "brand name" for $1,000 or more are just eliteist morons. Grow up and grow a brain.

I had a trek 3500 disc and it was pretty good for 500 dollar bike took it on trails a couple of times and it withstood the beating pretty well even though I was advised not to ride it too hard.( did pop the tires a couple of times )

Diamondback are made by Maddison in the UK. They also make Sarracen bikes. There are cheap versions of these bikes out there for people that just want to comute but i own a Saracen Mantra (customised parts) and a Saracen Myst team. A lot of people tell me how crap my Myst is and how cheap they are however, at £4500 and with constant podiums in the world DH i would like to argue the case that they are actually very good bikes.
