Here's my take on starter bikes. CC's are a factor, but only if you aren't responsible, in which case, buy a car! If you're gonna go hit the twisties and try to knee drag right away...you'll crash a 300 just as fast as a 1000. But here's what I would recommend. first, how much money do you have? Don't forget insurance and gear! Then go sit on some bikes. Try different brands, styles, cc's. Find one that you're comfortable on, because that is the most important thing! No point in buying a sport bike if you hate the feel....try a cruiser too. Might surprise you. If you want to skip the whole ride it for a few months then trade up...go ahead and start with a 600. You just have to respect the power. Of course you'll want to crack it open....but do it on a straight dry road and stay away from redline for a while and work up to it and you'll have no problems at all. BUT!!!! If you're a hooligan wannabe....and you dream about wheelies, knee drags, and whipping past people at 180mph...you better start small or you'll wind up 6ft under.

Great vid. I would say the 250/300 class is fine for someone with no experience. If you have ridden before then the 650 class and the FZ-07 are great options. Also it depends on what you are going to use it for.
It really does depend on the rider. I have a coworker that started on a CBR1000RR and did fine. On the flip side I had someone in my MSF class drop out because the Suzuki 250 cruiser she was riding had "so much power" that it scared her. She shouldn't even be riding a scooter. -
