Hi Darren, you talked about how to secure your bike while going to grocery stores or other shorter stops.
But what about for longer stops? such as visiting a museum or seeing a movie or anything that requires you to leave your bike for several hours or more. is there a good way to handle that? -
Hey thanks for info. I would really like a touring bike with 26in wheels and butterfly bars or something similar. Is this possible without breaking the bank.

Awesome, thank you for sharing!

What about visas? I want to ride from UK to Japan but I don't like to plan and I don't think planning on a trip like that is all that wise as things are constantly changing in the countries I want to cross. Ideally, I'd like to go through Russia and then dip down into China near the East coast, just makes it simpler logistically. But what if I have to go through Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan? A trip of that length makes it kind of hard to know exactly when I'll be at the border raring to go. Do most people just show up at the border and hope for the best?
What are your thoughts on Russia? I mainly want to go that way because they are relatively secular and they have meat widely available most places. Islamic countries, well, let's just say we have different opinions on most things, haha. -
If you have saddle sores you should make sure it is at a height where pushing the pedals will relive you from fully having your weight on the saddle.

How many bicycles have you used over the 15 years that you have been touring?

I'm really curious if you feel safe while travelling by bike in Romania. I mean the drivers are sometimes nuts. How do you find the people around the country not in Brasov? I know that city is one of the best cities to live in Romania. Regards, btw great channel. I recently found it :)

what's your take on the folding bike for touring? To me, seems unconventional yet I see it gaining and becoming more popular due to versatility.

Doesn't matter what you wear, throw on whatever you like, if it's lycra or other stuff...who cares ? Comfort and visibility are the only real considerations. All about the experience, not the wardrobe.
-
To that person who was worrying about clothes. Don't! No one expects you to look like a slick Lycra Monster when you're touring. Even the Lycra Monsters themselves will not do that. Many Lycra Monsters will probably envy you for doing what you do.
That said, the clothes I'm wearing on my weekend tours during the warmer seasons are all cheap but functional. I would suggest you get a cycling jersey (Mine is ultra bright red. VERY visible!) or some other kind of sports jersey. You will not regret that. A couple of arm sleeves are nice to have when the temperature drops, and can also be worn under a wind jacket to protect your arms from getting cold, when rain showers hit you now and then. As for pants, I like my plain polyester joggers very much. They breath, keep me warm and dries incredibly fast if they should get wet. I think I have spent not much more than 150$ total on clothes for my weekend touring. You can't say that's snobbish. Maybe i look like a fool but I don't care. -
Can you talk about the Rohloff hub and whether you've tried it? Would you recommend the classic chain drive or belt drive for long distance touring?
-
Thanks this was great info very helpful for my first tout in 3 weeks. How do you tackle finding a campsite or hostel if you need one...at short notice and not speaking the lino?
