When I was a kid there were lots of bikes with baskets because a lot of us delivered newspapers. And when my kids were small, they rode with me because I installed a seat on my bike for them to sit on. It's too bad that these simple items has been forgotten in the USA. But I do see some touring, urban, cargo and commuting bikes with baskets which is nice to see again. Baskets do hold a lot and it is a lot safer to carry things instead of plastic bags handing on the handlebars' ends. Baskets can also be installed on the rear racks too......

I found this to be pretty interesting. I enjoy seeing what life is like in other countries.

Interesting, no dutch guest? The nation that bikes to pretty much anywhere at any day? Bit a failure on that part.
Even funnier to see that the thought of Japan being the only country with baskets is also a failure, those started in the Netherlands as well. You will see a lot of people actually having one or in some cases even multiple attached to their bikes. The Dutch even created a 3 wheeled bike that is part bike part huge basket (usually the basket is made out of wood and is called a 'bakfiets', or in English a 'freight bicycle').
Even the mentioned is fairly common in the Netherlands, although in different styles and shapes. Since the Dutch are taller then pretty much anyone, you will see over all also bigger bikes to suit those needs. A wide variety of bikes are all over the nation. It may be good to view that as well to see everything in perspective.
