Both mom's as dad's carry kids on bikes, all kinds of bikes even. It actually was another Dutch thing to do that. It's actually very normal here to see that. No one will even be bothered really.
Also the bicycle parking lot is a Dutch invention, there are lots of them all around the bigger cities. To my knowledge there are no showers though, but then again... I never really bothered to step inside one to check on that. I usually move either by foot or public transportation. Bikes on trains are very common as well here, specially the bikes that can be folded together so they are taking less space. Bike rental is very common, specially for tourism but also for locals.
Power assisted bikes are still fairly uncommon, but no one would look up if there was one nearby. They do appear a lot more lately, even in the rural areas you see them more and more.
