In the Netherlands your parents teach you how to ride a bike from very young age, if you can stand and walk, you can learn to ride a bike basically. However as I mentioned on part 003 of this episode, schools do take responsibility of getting them some extra education in so they can reach their next school much saver.
Although the whole test loving nature in Japan is interesting, it may not be a great idea in general. You will see kids that can not reach the goals of others and as mentioned being banned from using a bike. Which is a very wrong way of doing things. Helping these kids out with extra support in a positive nature will solve the problem for most kids that do not make it. If a child is really dangerous on the road, yes then I can understand it may need a ban from using a bike. But I am all for extra education and for ALL students as part of school classes itself.
For the Duch idea about parents teaching their kids, well I know in Japan that may be a bit too much. This due to extreme work to your death idea that's going on. Which is taking away the more important things in life like teaching your kids valuable life lessons. So yes, I do hope it will change with time to a more healthy work/family time. But until then, schools will have to take up the tasks parents won't be able to do for now.
