Bike Friendly Cities: Copenhagen
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
Where better to start our series on Bike Friendly Cities than in Copenhagen - a city with over 215 miles of bike paths that was declared the world's best city for cycling a few years ago? We talked with everyone who is anyone in the world of cycling, starting with urban mobility expert Mikael Colville-Andersen, who advises cities across the planet and Morten Kabell, head of Copenhagen's Technical and Environmental Administration. We even found the beautiful lady who ferries sperm samples to fertility clinics around Copenhagen on a sperm-shaped cargo-bike. And of course we could not leave out the friendly wizards from the bike repair shops. For a number of days we researched whether Copenhagen really is paradise on Earth for cyclists. You can find the answer in our report. ABOUT WLC: WeLoveCycling.com is a new online magazine that brings you original stories, fresh videos and special reports from the wide world of cycling. http://www.welovecycling.com http://www.facebook.com/SkodaCycling

I've been to Copenhagen 4 times and think they have the best transport system in the world! I especially like the 'Green Wave' that allows bicycles to travel at 20kph without putting a foot down, thats twice the average speed in peak hour of traffic in Sydney Australia by car from the north and around 5kph faster than traffic from the south. I also like the turn right LED's (we would need turn left LED's in Australia). Best of all is the cleaner air.

It's not about saving the planet maaaaan.

And they doesn't use a helmet...

Great!

Why aren't other governments shamed into following the great examples set by Denmark, Holland etc? They just say "yeah, cycle more, but make sure you wear a polystyrene hat so you'll be safe under the wheels of a truck".

Nice! I went to Copenhagen few years ago and brought my bike. Thought it was all bike friendly and enjoyed riding through the city. I took it all for granted like I do here in Amsterdam...

In holland we bike a lot too. Almost all the kids from my village bike 10 miles or 25 kilometers to school 5 times a week.

And bicycling is treated as something normal, not portrayed as a dangerous pastime with compulsory helmet wearing as here in Australia and new Zealand also!
-
Copenhagen looks like a great place to get around by bicycle. Many cities could learn from that. But the dude in the video with the sunglasses needs to get over himself!
-
Some cities encourage bikes.......... they provide safe walking and biking lanes and trails. Cities also encourage businesses and apartments to provide safe places to lock or store a bicycle. Encourage your elected officials to do more. Speak up.. become an advocate for bicycle use in your city.
