Bike Lanes Toronto by City Cyclist
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
Bike lanes help keep cyclists and drivers safe; separated, dedicated lanes are ideal! Toronto bike lanes are rarely free of parked or stopped cars, delivery trucks, buses, service vehicles, etc. etc. Please allow bikes to use the bike lanes! The City says there is a $150 ticket for blocking a bike lane. Just watch my video...You're welcome, Toronto! I just raised 4,950! Bicycle use is increasing in Toronto and in urban centres around the world as a viable transportation alternative. Building good cycling infrastructure, increases usage and makes roads safer for all users. Cycling is healthy- excellent for cardio, fights obesity, it's, good for the environment, and saves money! #Cycling, Bike Lanes, Canada, Toronto, health, bicycle, gridlock, bicycle commuting, traffic jams, bicycle lifestyle, big city biking, save money, ease congestion, better environment, green, eco-friendly, bicycle lanes, better cardiovascular health, outdoor fitness, rush hour, bicycle rush hour, bike lanes, Toronto cycling, Cycling commute Toronto, urban commuting, better life, reduce stress

Even Stockholm is better than this. Oh Canada, please don't ruin your country like Sweden has done. Canada is one of very few countries I could consider moving to.

Obviously some of these are just ridiculous but let's say the city needs to do road work or the bike lane was built in a loading zone you'd have change lanes regardless of whether it was a regular lane or for bikes.

Nice video, but especialy nice commentary! :D
We do need our beer, indeed... -
nice video, but you haven't seen the bike lanes in Greece. They either don't exist or they are purely planned. Check out the video I made!

I read an article years ago about the futility of bike lanes in NYC. The majority of the cyclists that they polled stated that streets with bike lanes cause more of an inconvenience for the same reasons you show in your video. Having to depart the bike lane so often was their largest concern.
They contrasted it with non-bike-laned streets wherein there is more free reign as driver's especially are not expecting the bikes to be restricted to just one area. -
I like how you're so polite about it. You are not angry.

bed car drivers:(

This is pretty funny.

Cyclists are a-holes. So are car drivers, truck drivers and bikers. I get it. We are all a-holes. Now that we know what we are, it doesn't mean can act like it tho. i guess it's too much to ask to keep to the rules, right?

where do you expect trucks to park lol,id lose my shit if i drove a truck in the city, you have a bike which is simple to maneuver around vehicles ,live with it "cyclists"

Are we turning our cities in Chinese cities?
-
Do they know how much I pay a year to drive my car? How much do they pay to ride their bikes? Fuck all.
-
your such a loser!

A lot of Rob Ford voters in the bike lane.

Bike lanes only work on roads without much congestion or traffic in general, only one lane per direction for simplicity and with no reason to park next to it unless there is more than enough car parking space anyway, ideally the bike lane will bypass the car parking on the outside not inside. The cycle lane also needs to be coloured to make it known to be a bike lane, will need to be at least 1.75 metres wide, ideally 2-2.5, and if there is parking, a buffer between 50 and 120 cm wide is good to add, and with making it a protected bike lane on the approach to major intersections with marked priority on all other intersections. Oh, and low speed, 50 km/h or less, ideally they should only be on roads with speed limits of 30 km/h. Camera enforcement also helps a bit, but if you have a bike lane, it should only have been installed if there was no way to reasonably use a protected bike lane aka a cycle track instead.

You need to take some time to educate yourself on the rules of "bike lanes." There are acceptable conditions where a car is able to pullover in the bike lane (not a cycle track) and there are many of those situations in your video.

WHO CAN STOP IN PAINTED BIKE LANES?
Vehicles loading or unloading a person with a disability, school buses picking up or dropping off kids, and, yes, taxis collecting or depositing passengers are all allowed to stop in the bike lane. No vehicles are permitted to drive for more than 45 metres in a bicycle-only part of the street marked with paint, however. -
Taxis and buses can stop in the bike land to pick up and drop of fares.mby law u must pass them on the left
-
Actually taxis can park in the bike lane to pick up and drop of passengers

Toronto needs more ghost bikes. Just last week a cyclist bounced of my hood and was rushed to hospital. His mangled bicycle was all over the road. I took the seat as a souvenir. He had no helmet, no reflectors (he rode into me at night), and rode head on into traffic in the wrong lane. Needless to say the police found him at fault.
I hope he died of his injuries.
