Bikes Vs Cars (Canberra)

I suggested to ABC Stateline,Canberra, that they do a story on bike use in Canberra ,as Canberra has a proud history of bike use, particularly in the late 1940's and early 50's. Given that the presenter needed more time to do the story, it has turned out to be a Bike Vs Car story. My little snippet was about trying to advocate for better infrastructure. The ACT Government has been implementing cycle lanes on major arterial roads as opposed to doing what the Europeans have been doing or using the crow design manual for cycle infrastructure. Sadly the local cycling group has supported on road cycle lanes on major arterial roads and highways by saying that these lanes are safe and cost 20 times less than a cycle path or track. The goal of The ACT Government is to get to 5% of bike share by 2011 and it is looking like they will not reach that target as we are now just under 3% of total Bike use.

I think the fight would stop a lot more if drivers knew bike rules as well (Which they don't teach on the learners test). bicycles are legally able to ride two a breast and the law says that if you think is not save to signal before you turn then you don't need to (as in you think you are going to fall if you take one hand of the handle)

What a retard that old bloke is. Its old farts like him that stop us from moving forward. Imagine if truck drivers drove like him we'd all be dead! What an arrogant prick. They have had separate bike paths in Holland for decades and ALL drivers know that bikes have way over cars. Bike riders always have to take care of pedestrians. I have a super loud airhorn on my bike that I only reserve for dick head drivers. If I use it on a pedestrian it puts them in the bushes! More e-bikes bikes less cars

Does anyone remember Canberras Roads before 5 years ago? 10 years ago? Does anyone give a shit about the potholes,the cracks,and this retarded f u c k e d up Communist Road system here in Canberra? This inefficient Communist Road system where nice big roads have been let to rott,and become run down,and now have large sections allocated as bike lanes?Or original roads that have been deliberately bulldozed up and then turned into a shrunken down road with bike lanes now installed.Is this 2010???
