Daniel Kish is blind, but he can ride a bike and hike in the woods without a guide. He can describe his surroundings in precise detail. He's an extraordinary man, and wants to share his gift with others who lack sight. Why aren't organizations advocating for the blind more supportive?

This is very common for blind people isn't it? Of all the two blind people I know both use echolocation.

To be perfectly honest, its not that impressive. Daniel is using echo-location, so do many others, and hes very inspiring to other blind people - but, he even said it himself, its because we have this expectation of people who are blind not to see, that it seems out of the norm that a blind person could ride a bike, cook, hike, etc.
If we happened to take off those expectations of blind people, you would see alot more blind people using echo-location and doing things by themselves. Early on in Daniels life, the people close to him, especially his mother, let him do echo-location and allowed him to use it at a young age. If parents around the globe did the same, a blind person may very well ride a bike or climb a tree. But the problem is, most parents will hold back their child to do those kind of things, and therefore we have expectations of what a blind person can do and cannot do. -
UPDATE ON DANIEL: Since July 8, 2015 we've been on a campaign to create more awareness about our Flash Sonar™ Echolocation by boosting the number of views of Daniel's TED2015 Talk in Vancouver earlier this year.
In just 12 days, the views have increased from 796,343 to 827,749 on our way to a milestone of 900K and subsequently over a MILLION views.

I feel like if I met him he would see me, or into me, far better than people with normal vision. I bet he can detect the slightest bit of insincerity far better than any normal person. How amazing.

Even more remarkable than Daniel was his mother who transended all the social conditioning that forced her to hold her son to her with a very short tether. She overcame this and allowed the soul that occupied the person, Daniel, to experience the world as any other child who happened to have the limitation that eyes imposed. The bias that eyes imposes is a limitation on sight.

Bats are blind. Although they can't see color, bats can see better than we do at night. And, many bats can also "see" in the dark by using echolocation.
