Bosch vs. Yamaha Electric Bike Motors and Drive System - Weight, Power, Ride Test
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
I tested and compared the 2016 Bosch and Yamaha electric bikes (Haibike XDURO and SDURO models) and was able to take a detailed look at the motors, batteries, display units and chargers off the bikes. What I found is that the combined motor and battery weight for both systems is exactly the same at 14.1 lbs and that with the Bosch CX Gen 3 unit the torque was very similar to Yamaha but offered a wider range of supported pedal speeds (higher range of powered cadence). Each system has four levels of assist but they vary slightly. Bosch Performance Line CX, Gen 3 for 2016: - 250 watts to 350 watts power output - 75 Newton meters of torque (60 Nm on non CX motor) - 36 volt 11 amp hour Powerpack 400 battery - 2.2 amp charger weighing 1.7 lbs (0.77 kg) - 8.8 lb (4 kg) motor, 5.3 lb (2.4 kg) battery, 14.1 lb (6.4 kg) total - 16T or 18T sprocket - Assist levels: Eco: 50%, Tour: 120%, Sport: 190%, Turbo: 275%, CX motor: (Sport: 210%, Turbo: 300%) Yamaha 2016 electric bike system: - 250 watts to 500 watts power output - 80 Newton meters of torque - 36 volt 11 amp hour battery - 4 amp charger weighing 2 lbs (0.91 kg) - 7.6 lb (3.45 kg) motor, 6.5 lb (2.95 kg) battery, 14.1 lb (6.4 kg) total - 38T sprocket - Assist levels: Eco+: 50%, Eco: 100%, Std: 180%, High: 280%

Personally I prefer rear drive bikes . Front drive is just pure garbage, mid drive is more economical but you just don't get the same torque as you get from a direct rear drive system .

Bosch have great quality branded than superior

The 2017 Yamaha motor spins up to 120 RPM from the old 85 RPM max just thought I would add this info.

What kind of q - factor these motor give ? or simply what is the width of these ( Measure at the end of crank spindle ) . Do you know if any frame builder is allow to built a frame who can receive any of these motor unit ? With of course the appropriate lower frame curvature . Thanks

I like your addition of the backpack selfie stick. This makes for a better video than holding with one hand, but I'm also not cringing, wondering if or when you're going to end up taking a spill!

Yamaha is $1000 less? but they are still over charge ebike cost around $5000 means same range as 125cc Yamaha off-road motorcycle. My ezip trailz whole cost was just $299.

Great review, has helped me decide on the Bosch system mounted on a Cube bike, the Cube SUV Hybrid Pro 27.5, hopefully with the 500W battery pack

Hi, I'm really enjoy your reviews. is this electric bike motor system let you convert your existing mountain bike into ebike?

I got xduro Amy rx . I have been riding it nonstop what an amazing E bike. Thank you for all the informative videos.

The 250 W that Bosch lists is just the nominal output power. The motor can actually do much, much more. The actual peak power is about 650 W and can be supplied for several minutes. You can see the actual motor power on the Bosch Nyon display.
