Boy On A Bicycle Hit By Pickup Truck In Modesto, California - Modesto News

This afternoon at around 3:30 p.m. the Modesto Police Department, Modesto Regional Fire Authority, and the AMR Ambulance Service were dispatched to the intersection of Coffee Rd. and Floyd Ave. for reports of a Bicycle Vs Truck collision. When the emergency workers arrived on the scene they found a 12 year old boy laying in the intersection being attended to by passersby. The driver of the pickup truck was also at the scene appearing shaken, sitting on the sidewalk. Firefighters and EMTs set to work stabilizing the boy who was alert and conscious, while police officers set to work documenting and investigating the accident. The boy was transported to Memorial Medical Center with serious injuries. The boy was wearing a helmet but, the helmet came off during the impact. Further information about his condition will not be released to the public however, according to officials at the scene the boy is expected to survive. Police talked with the driver of the pickup truck and several witnesses. The accident is still under investigation however, several witnesses stated that the boy crossed the intersection against the red light causing the collision. The speed of the truck during the impact is being estimated at between 30 to 40 miles per hour. Very sad, I am not trying to blame that intersection for why this happened, but maybe we could try to improve the safety of that specific intersection. I have seen a lot of accidents right around there in the news for at least the past few years.
