Brompton bicycle in Kuala Lumpur - very useful and fast
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
I've put together a video from running a few errands in down town Kuala Lumpur on my folding bicycle. There is no faster way to run these errands - and it is good for the environment and your own health, too! I'm using a Brompton bicycle that folds really well and compact and it only weighs 10 kg. There is no need to carry the bicycle around, however, as it can be pushed around on small wheels once folded. In fact, it folds into a stroller - or shopping cart - once the bicycle basket is added. As you will see from the video, I'm using the foldable bicycle for grocery shopping in the super market. Traffic can come to a grid-lock in Kuala Lumpur, but this is not problem for the Brompton bicycle, which easily squeezes between cars with its narrow handle bar (only 53 cm width) and therefore does not add to the traffic congestion. Wasting time and money on parking is of course also not a problem with a folding bike. The environmental benefits of the bicycle are substantial - particularly as bicycles do not add to noise or air pollution - the latter killing more that 1 million people annually in the cities around the world. Lastly, bicycling is healthy exercise. International studies have found that if one bicycles daily, one will add 5 years to one's life. And who wouldn't want to do that? Enjoy! GREGERS REIMANN 8 June 2013 PS. Several people have commented that video of me squeezing through traffic looks very dramatic, almost like the movie Premium Rush by David Koepp starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Dania Ramirez in New York city. Well, riding a bicycle is exciting, but I think the filming with a GoPro camera on a body strap and at a low height (not able to look above the cars) makes the video look wilder than it really is. In fact, I feel it is quite safe to bicycle in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. PPS. Here's a link to a Brompton dealer in the US that sells the Brompton with an electric motor: http://www.nycewheels.com/ PPPS. Cool video. Thank you for making this video

Wow, Gregers, that was enoyable to watch. And enviable too. I've been looking at one of these bikes for myself, and an electric option for those hilly parts when my legs (I'm 60, almost) won't or refuse to participate. Do you know if the Brompton is sold in Malaysia? Thanks. Cheerio.

Hi, can sell the Brompton bike to me?

Extremely cool. I've got a brommie S6R myself and have worked in Kuala Lumpur so this brings back memories while bringing a smile to see a brommie being fully used as intended :)

Thanks a lot for this marvelous video.

Are you Danish?

Dude, your bike ride in busy traffic was more exciting than an action movie. Very nice job. Keep it up.

I did not see or hear a bike bell and when riding in that kind of traffic, a bell is essentail. They are mandatory in Brazil.

Great video, man! We're commuting by Brompton in Chiang Mai at the moment. Looking forward to bringing our bikes to KL to ride these roads!

It's amazing how obsolete motor vehicles are compared to bikes in crowded urban environments.

I love to ride my Brompton in London but I don't think I would ride in KL. Your video brings back memories as I lived in KL for 5 years, I worked in KLCC so not far to commute from Ampang. Bansar is another matter ... Oh and sweating in the heat and the regular downpours of tropical rain in the afternoon can't be easy either. Nice video though.

Hi there...
No doubt the Brompton is a beautiful bike. But the price of owning one does make it an issue for me. I own a 24" Tern Node, an upgraded 20" UGO and an upgraded 16" Trinx. Add the price of these 3 bikes with all the upgrades and i still wont be able to own a Brommie hehehe...
Nevertheless, your video is way cool. I plan to commute to work by bike when the MRT is finally completed.
