If you put on a hub motor can a in hub dynamo still be used?
-
Hi, what if you want to lock your bike up on the street, are U-locks available for bromptons?
-
Can I use the the dynamo to charge my cell phone?
-
Yep! There's a simple on/off switch. -Miles

Can you turn off the dynamos when you don't want them to shine, like during the daytime?

We do stock the SON lights and hubs Best- jack

Flashing cycle lights are no longer illegal n the UK, they are now in the Highway code.

The thing about the Shimano front light is that it uses a bulb rather than an LED. This bulb can burn out whereas an LED is much much less likely to. So, if you get a SON kit, appreciate that LED, it's really nice to have. -Peter

The bolt spacing on the rear lights is a pretty standard 2 inches so you can mount whatever battery light that fits. As for dynamo lights, I'm not very familiar with the different kinds but I imagine there must be some out there that blink! Good luck and thanks for watching.-Peter

Nope, they all sit clearly above the lights so you'll have no obstructions. -Peter

Do any of the front luggage bags get in the way of the front lights? If so, which ones?

Here in the USA and especially where I live in NYC, blinking red gets attention from motorists more readily than a steady light. And they're not illegal here as they are in England. Can you equip a Brompton with an R-type compatible rear light that flashes? If so, only a battery model or are there also ones available which will work with the dynamo hubs? Finally, is there an LED front lamp with the "stand light" feature that can be fitted to the Shimano hub?

@ppeters77 NIce, I've always wanted dynamos on my bike but have yet to go for one. I think the SON may push me over the edge. We'll see once the winter brings the early twilight. - Peter

@nycewheels Hi Peter, I have currently two bicycles with hub dynamos, one with a shinamo N30-something with a B+M Lyt headlight and a bike with a SON with an Edelux headlight. It's the cheapest shimano dynamo so the difference in resistance is noticeable, I don't think I whould feel a differance with a more expensive shimano. But the SON is such a nicely build piece of equipment, I really like it. Also I will transfer it to my next bike, something I whouldn't do with a shimano.....

@ppeters77 Good comparison, do you currently ride with either of these systems? -Peter
-
@cyclocommuter I tend to agree with Ppeters77 here. The SON does have a smaller reflector but the light is much brighter with less resistance. The SON also has a front stand light, meaning the light remains lit even when you've stopped rolling. That's a great safety feature. -Peter

@cyclocommuter It seems that you didn't noticed that the LED Light also has a reflektor around it. The light shines only through this little rectangle, the rest is a reflektor. I whould always opt for the SON. It lasts forever, has a much lower rolling resistance and the supplied Cyo LED light is a good headlight with excellent illumination, the halogen one which comes with the Shimano Dynamo pales in comparision.

Excellent video! Clearly shows the difference between Son and Shimano hub lighting systems. I kind of prefer the Shimano front light though with the reflector around it. I wonder if you can get a Son hub and the Shimano front light.
