PLEASE READ: (Link to thread I mentioned in video) http://www.600rr.net/vb/15-general-discussion/273108-so-you-want-supersport-your-1st-bike.html Can I start on a 600cc motorcycle sport bike? Well, the short answer is yes. You can start on a 600 and be okay, most likely. However, is it the smart thing to start on? No. There are purpose built beginner bikes that will actually let you learn how to ride. You wouldn't take a super sport off roading would you? Right. You would take something like a KTM 650 or something of that dual sport class. Well, the same applies here. Beginner bikes are better for beginners. Buy hey, you do whatever you want to do! Just know the risks! New riders need to be cautious with their choice in machinery! Thank you for watching! ya but your spending $3000 to $8000 on a weak bike that you will get tired of after 6 months

I started on a 1000cc like 3 days ago

Learn to ride first, off road is best, do a riding course, do what ever you can but learn to ride.
Power is not the be all and end all, learn how to corner, learn how to use the brakes, there is a lot to riding a bike.
Rossi did not start on a MotoGP bike he started on a mini moto, they practice on 100cc dirt bikes, Jack Miller went from a Moto 3 to a Moto GP and that is a massive jump and he got hurt a lot and he is no slow rider.
Learn to walk before you run.
Learn from the racers, the pro' s not on YouTube. -
If you've done you das course which is a 4 day course that starts on a 125 and then 500 then you just go to a 500-600 or 1000 it's up to you. Do the states even have a direct access course???

I do not want a sport bike.

Another person who HASN'T done it advocating that you shouldn't. What a joke. I wonder if people realize his opinion isn't based on personal experience in the topic he's discussing.

I've been looking for used bikes on craiglist but every bike i find that's 8-10 years old is usually only about 2-4k less than a brand new bike. Quickly finding out that bikes hold their value very well.

Liked for the first 2 minutes of advice

Starting on a 4 cylinder 600cc sport bike is well, risky, because a real 600 cc bike is razor sharp and could kill you. Twins in a comparable size are much easier to ride because of the power delivery. An average 600 is a 160+ mph bike.....think about it.

regardless of what you think right now, if you get a 250 you will won't a bigger bike within mounths. if you went to a basic rider class get a fucking 600 or bigger, and save your money and headache of getting 3 different bikes.

after 35 years on bikes, though driving a wonderful 1200 in the last 7 years I believe you do not need a big bike and it is decidedly better to start driving on a medium (as I did for meno years and it was the best thing to do). many recent 600 bikes are faster than big ones!

i think ill start on a 300

Should I start on a Ninja ZX-14R?
-
Respect and common sense if you posses those 2 attributes you'll be fine whatever you choose to ride.
-
I started on a GSXR 750 and I loved it...then I had a GSXR 600 and it was very nice.
Saying that you shouldnt start on a 600 is something you can not know if you didnt start on a 600. So your meaning is based on ........air -
Think a 600+ is good if you've been riding a 300 scooter for a year as a daily commuter, but never used a shifting bike besides the MSF course?

I started on a 600 but I am a super-responsible guy... spent all the time trying to survive, than I moved to another country, abandoned my 600 and moved to a ninja 300 for money reasons, that's when I sharpened my skills, learned to lean. The 600 thought me how to be safe... but that's not the natural order of things. Start small
