Nice, fan video. Usually, it's the people buying Titanium or custom build bikes that go into so much detail about welds and stuff like that. A V2000 MTB frame from the 90s is still in good condition and a 2006 frame CAAD is still raceable after a fork swap and paint job after an accident, though the top tube is dented. All bikes in the market can last, well most of them. Been using made in Taiwan bikes because they're good or better than some Euro or US factory made stuff. From my experience, stuff like my US custom Ti bikes and Italian Alu MTB are worth the purchase due to geometry and attention to detail in production. would like to see Made In Taiwan pasted on equipment in Le Tour or World Cup racing. Even a German brand can end up making a slip up in production. That's what warranty is for.

Nice Job...Thanks for having the guts to make the video.
Why is everyone concentrating on the weld, sanding or not sanding? Its about American pride, and taking the time to put that pride into a work of art....UGH! -
This video seems to me more about politics than bike quality...
-
; )
if welds get sanded its not possible to really judge their quality. small nicks or uneven areas would rather show the quality of sanding, rather than the quality of welding. -
good welds are not are about smoothness or no gaps. Actually welds with equal gaps,
like dot-line welding two surfaces make stronger connection then one pass filled with a weld which actually weaken two metal structures.
So we shouldn't judge weld quality like this, especially painted over. For eg 60ties motorcycles often had welded parts patched, so the finish would look super smooth after painting. -
I love your videos man really awesome. What a shame I was once huge fan of Cannondale one time and now there made in Taiwan. By American Made By A TREK BIKE I'm glad I have DEROSA KING 3 and I do have Felt F4130 nice bike also

Can you make a video on how to paint a bike frame?
-
ohhh yeah, I have a 1998 caad3 r1000 in perfect condition.

Today's spelling lesson.

Bikes manufactured in the US have no better quality than the ones manufactured in Taiwan (especially for carbon bikes, where taiwanese companies are excelling). The smoothness of the welds of the "made in USA) frame had little to do with weld quality but was only aestetically pleasing. Yet machining down a weld, though eye pleasing and time consuming (thus expensive) is actually likely to weaken the weld if the process is not performed correctly.

In my opinion these are not Cannondale bikes at all. It's a bit like when a company goes bust and brought by someone else, they use the name above the door trying to make out it's the same business, but it's not. You cannot compare new Cannondale bikes with the old ones as they are totally different in every way. Sorry, but these are not Cannondale bikes as we know them. Someone has simply Emailed a copy of the drawings in the US to a factory in Taiwan and told them to make it as cheaply as possible. And they do.

it doesn't matter where its made its still a cannon fail
-
the reason for the sloppier looking welds is as follows; In previous years cannondale ground their big beefy welds down for astetics. (keep in mind that a good weld should look like a stack of dimes and should not be smooth) other companys started presuring cannondale and saying that theyre welds were no good because they didnt look like stacks of dimes and they belived canondale was grinding them down to hide the fact that the were "bad welds". in reaction to this cannondale shows off the good welds now by grinding them down less.
so no the quality of the welds have not gone down -
its the Pride in craftsmanship handmade in the usa is what is lost Im a big fan of C dale myself caad 9 and 2009 super six Hi,Mod, witch is the last year for USA Made carbon

I own a quick 5 it sucks ass
-
cannondale become cheep and bad quality! i got 7 CD and will never buy again till i see USA flag on it!
-
I like your review.
That's the same reason why I keep my old Bianchi, which is handmade in Italy, unlike the current Bianchi which are made in Taiwan.
Considering all of these industrialisation, is there any US or European cycle maker that is still producing bikes in their own country?
Cheers! -
I noticed a drop in fit and finish myself. i still ride a 2000' F3000Sl and would not buy a Cannondale today. I am looking for a road bike now and have decided to skip Cannondale because the fit and finish are very important to me, second to performance but non the less important. I also prefer outside brake cable routing.
