Video 1 of 2: Here is a way you can repair your busted Carbon Fiber Frame. This method won't work for all repairs but it may be able to save you from having to buy a new frame. Frame manufactures are going to hate me for this video. For more information visit: http://theprojectjunkie.com/bicycles-bike-components/carbon-bike-repair.html

How do I know what kind of graphite powder/filler to buy? I've also seen cab-o-sil mixed with the epoxy.

It's best to remove the bottle cage riv nut and do carbon work then re instate a 5mm riv nut after the works done prior to paint 😊🚲
-
Use hand file to remove paint ,on Giants its weapons grade paint ! Get to just when carbon is showing then use a Stanley blade to plane the rest of the paint lacquer off as it won't damage the carbon

I don't know about bike repair but I know when you put a hole in a steel or wood joist/ member you increase the stress around that area X3.
-
That's why I'm still on steel.
-
hey mark what are all the things you need ?
-
Excess epoxy is also not primarily an issue because of weight. More epoxy means weaker CF.
-
Why did you use graphite powder in the epoxy resin? Cool video!
-
Well done MK for posting informative video! Too many people wanna bad-mouth you here!!
-
Good job using digital scales as a work stand LOL!

Just get another bike. Tightarse.

The weave pattern on the inside of my headtube had pealed due to what seems like an over torqued headset. It appears only to be re first layer, is that deadly?
-
How long does it take to repair the frame?
-
We don't really need ovens, shoes or raincoats either... Yes some people are unlucky with carbon fibre. Some because they crash, and some because they are too hard on it with their tools. But it really isn't as bad as you make it sound like. Remember, you only hear about people who are unlucky with it. I have a 10 year old carbon bike which has taken thousands of kilometres, and have had plenty of crashes, but apart from paint chips, the frame is perfect.

Wow the carbon fiber bike looks awesome without the paint. How did you remove the painy.
-
are you doing a separate vid on to how to repair your teeth?
-
You should ride carbon even if you aren't a professional, it is there to buy so why not buy it. It really doesn't crack easily it is a very strong material, most bikes come with carbon forks anyway. You can buy a carbon bike for sub £1000 now. You clearly have no understanding of modern bikes and technology.

hope your not planning on building a bike with that old carbon frame i just junk it befor you end up getting injured if it fails when your on the bike
-
Hey great vid!! Thanks! Quick Q. When wetting the carbon fiber do you wet both sides of the carbon fiber cloth?
-
I do research with carbon fiber and to keep it simple all I can say is that its not a great idea to try and fix it without a proper understanding of the material.
