Which is better caad10 or contend? Thanks
-
I skipped around the video, trying to find the price range. Any idea what their range is gonna be? Is it comparable to Fuji's Sportif?

Should I get the Giant Contend 3 or Specialized Allez E5 2017?
-
I tested a Contend SL1 this week.
It feels good, but I'm worried about the brakes.
The brakes are not true hydraulic. They are a Hydraulic/ Mechanical hybrid.
The advantage is that you can use any cable pull leaver, but I think the biggest downside is modulation going from the hydraulic to cable converter.
I only rode the bike in the parking lot so I couldn't really get a good feel. -
Here in Taiwan, the Contend only comes in cheaper models. The most expensive being around US$1000. A 80% discount is normal here from the list price for all Giant bikes. The most expensive Contend will be 9kg flat without the pedals, at US$1000. A Defy that costs twice as much (Defy Advanced) will be 8.7kg but they will come with Ultegra.
The head tube looks much much nicer on the defy , of course, but they cost a thousand dollars more. Weight wise the cheapest defy will also be 9kg. Contend will also have ALUXX and D-fuse. So maybe they are making it cheap for everyone.
Taiwan's economy is bad ..30% growth in bike riding..Taiwan is a wonderful place for bicycles. Land of scooters, 7-elevens and mountains. Most recreational people ride alongside the river where motor vehicles aren't allowed back and forth 50km or so. -
This has me SUPER excited! I have been debating between the Defy and the CAAD12, I think this bike ticks more of the boxes for me.

a few facts from a defy 5 (full alloy, claris 8 speed) rider from the last 2 years.
1. in the us, the alloy defys have been removed from the site, i just checked today (im looking into getting a new bike). also, there are 4 versions here in the us the site shows, with the non disk versions (here in the us there are two) having the non integrated seat post and aluxx and the disk versions using the integrated seat post and aluxx sl. the contend 3 non disk (old defy 5) is the only using a full alloy fork with the other 3 using the hybrid.
2. i picked this bike up on sale for 550 bucks us, and have put about 6500 miles on it. and while its not a bad beginners bike, if you start to get into it hardcore, you will want to upgrade. my biggest complaints are the weight of my defy5 (size m is about 23.5 lbs bare), the bottle cage nut on the down tube has come loose and raddles (looking into having it fixed but some bike shops wont even bother trying), the external cables creak like a motherfucker especially when turning, and i can seriously feel the bottom bracket moving when making efforts say up a hill or keeping up with the local fast guys.
3. this all being said, for the price, its kinda hard to beat and if they dropped the price even lower, even better. and i havent been overly nice with the bike either, going local gravel rides and even ridden single track with it. if your just starting out, the base is just fine, if you just picking up something new and have riden before, i would say get at least the aluxx sl models. -
Holy cow, prices in the US are so high. The Sora specced Defy here in Taiwan can be bought for roughly 600$ (22500nt official price, all stores tend to offer 10\15% discount). It's good to live near their factory xD

Hope to order my Disc SL1 this week!

I like the line "how is Giant saving money?" that was an excellent shopping viewpoint.
How would you suggest consider for a wheel upgrade? I have bought this year a entry level 2015Specalized Allez comp alum. Even though I would love to buy a TT bike, and Endurance bike, and a carbon road bike...... I'm a blue collar baller so only one bike for now with all the different parts to take on and off as needed. The bike I have now will be my Tri bike when the times come unless I find a good TT bike deal.
I guess what Im asking is how to turn my alum road bike into a similar version of every other bike if is is possible through stem extensions, Aero bars, Wheel upgrades....ect. -
so what would you recomend, defy advanced 1 or giant contend sl1?
plus how much clearance has these new bikes?
regards -
The welds on the entry model of Giant Contend are not so smooth.

I think you focus on the top three brands, but I ride a 2014 Diamondback Century 2 and love it, super comfortable, but it is heavy. I am considering one of the 2016 or 2017 Century 4 carbon. Could you compare geometry of any of the top three to the Diamondback?

I'm waiting to see if the 2017 Contend SL 1 Disc will be made available here in Australia? Although some of the 2017 range are already available the full range comes out at the end on July. The Contend SL 1 DISC is almost identical in specs to the 2016 Defy 1 Disc except for one important feature. It has hydraulic discs instead of mechanical.
