This excellent video should be shown to the roads department at every single council. It requires no introduction, no explanation, nothing. Just get it shown as is and the point will be driven home. Excellent work.

lmao-for ppl who risk their lives on roads not safe paths lol obviously
-
I think infrastructure is the wrong word. Painting a few lines on a busy road doesn't help anybody. That short distance covered in the video could have been more pleasant if the redundant wide verge had a real cycle path. at very little extra cost.

if this isn't proof positive that the people who design traffic manegment systems only do so to justify their jobs as in the unnessasary traffic lights in central London that have no additional safety or trafic flow benefits
-
Is this video recorded in Russia?
-
What is just as annoying is the cycling paths on public footpaths that pedestrians completely ignore and walk down
-
Cyclists should be grateful.... How about we simply ban cycling on the road.... Would you prefer that?
We don't need cyclists and we don't need cycling..... -

I would have (and do) just stayed on the road and taken my chances. If you want an example of a truly horrible (so called) city to ride in, visit Milton Keynes! The redway cycle system runs along, over and under the main roads, is shared with everyone on foot, poorly lit, broken surfaces, stop start at crossings, a crime magnet and takes you nowhere near where you want to arrive! However, the dual carriageways and main roads are like a race track. So glad I moved out to the countryside.

And the video doesn't even mention the 4 kerbs you have to ride over, including the one that must be mounted at an angle, high risk of a wheel skidding slong that and dumping you on your ass

It's a comforting myth to think that bike-lanes exist for the safety and convenience of bicyclists. Closer to the truth, bike-lanes have historically been installed for the convenience of motorists, to "get cyclists out of the way". With the modern revival of bicycling, new bike-lanes are installed so city councils can put a check-mark in a box, and say "yeah, we installed some bike infrastructure".
Active transport needs to be an INTEGRAL part of the transportation network, not just a strip of paint and a sign with a bike on it. -
mate i know what u mean its a joke and we are at our own risk too can't win till you get hit off your bike or even worst death
-
This shows how much we give a shit about cyclists. Pay some road tax please
-
worse than cycle lanes are those fucking gates you get on cycle paths that you can barely get your bike through, I think they are supposed to stop people on motorbikes getting on the cycling paths but they are a fucking joke especially when some places have them every 2 minutes and then theres the other gates where the fucking barrier is like 1mm wider than compact drop bars

Good question well asked Chris. Meanwhile, 200 miles east: http://www.aviewfromthecyclepath.com/2014/03/discover-what-works-to-encourage-mass.html

Until cycling becomes a major part of UK transport policy, then cyclists are always going to get the bums' rush. The motorist is good enough to line the governments coffers with cash. Until you can get motorists out on 2 wheels, especially for shorter journies, then nothing is going to change.

and that's an example of "good" infrastructure in the UK... :(
-
It seems to me the motorist is being protected from the cyclist - is that right?
