City Cycling - Amsterdam, The Netherlands
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
This video was filmed during my trip through the Netherlands. Amsterdam is one of the most bicycle friendly cities in the entire world, and it was a real pleasure being able to ride a bike through it and share it in this video! As always, I have added in a digital speedometer and heart rate monitor, and included voice commentary to help keep the video interesting. If you like this format of video, please also check out the many videos that I have posted riding in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In this video I used my new Contour Roam 2 camera to shoot the action footage. I recorded the audio with my Panasonic voice recorder. I tracked the speed and heart rate using my Garmin eTrex 30 GPS, and wrote a basic program in Turing to display the numbers on the screen. Special thanks to my Dad for being the navigator and follow vehicle for this ride! I definitely couldn't have done it without him leading the way! I hope you enjoy this video. Just you know, we do have about 8 million cars on a 17+ million population.
-
You made a view traffic violations! Be aware that pedestrians have priority on the pedestrian crossing! (zebrapad)
-
There is no jay walking in the Netherlands..
-
I like the speed / cadence display! how did you do that?!

It looks like your daddy took some red lights. I am from Limburg, the south of the Netherlands and we do have hills. interesting to visit and also some beautiful scenery. I advise everybody to come and visit it.
A small correction, bikes do not have right of way on "zebra paden". Pedestrians always have right of way on the zebra stripes, also with cars! Only even many Dutch people have it wrong. -
Excellent video mate. Thanks for sharing.

LOL no way...pedestrians have the right of way on those crossings, you should have stopped, but hey I never do goes fine;)
-
Just pronounce it as "Dumb Square";)

Cycling in Holland sucks because it's so much traffic and everyone goes slow and you have to go slow.
-
It seems like you were talking quite loud, and it makes me cringe.
-
It was nice to hear your story about the hooks on the old buildings (the purpose is correct btw)
And yes, they are still being used. If only a small amount of stuff has to be lifted, they still get a pully-wheel and rope out. I did it a few times as well ;) It was nice to see the tourist-reactions. -
Most bikes are just cheap because expensive ones get stolen.

Im acctually from Amsterdam, it's quite funny becouse i whas thinking of doing this accact same thing for amsterdam, becouse there is very little bike footage. No offence, but you took a really big de-tour, you should have gone over "Museumplein" and from there to the Dam square. Then to central station and then go back over the so called "Nieuwmarkt" to "leideplein". Thats a really nice bike tour i would reccomend to anybody that wants to see the city on a bike, go go straight through the city center and really see what Amsterdam is really about.

PS ... pedestrians have right of way on cross-walks .... but as natives know bicyclist can be somewhat anarchic and not stop, pedestrians proceed with caution :)

thanks for sharing your trip and enjoying our country and on top of that giving us lots of compliments :D Had never heard of the bike and barge, nice idea. if you ever come back for cycling, Utrecht is worth a try, amazing bicycletraffic there, and Groningen which is the best city for cycling in the world. both beautiful cities. Be careful on those crosswalks tho!

i hate it when tourists bike in amsterdam it just frustrates me because they always take the whole width of the biking road so that no one can get in front of em

It's a nice place

Cycled in the Netherlands fairly recently and had a great time just riding and exploring on their wonderful infrastructure, however the one thing that i did find disconcerting was, that the scooters were also sharing the bike lanes.
This was fine in the suburbs, however once inside Amsterdam, the behaviour of the scooter riders was blatantly aggressive.
I was left thinking why scooters are not classed as motorised traffic, and should use the roads instead...!? -
@26:16 nope
