Ah Japan, the ass backwards country (in a good way)
In Japan - you pay people so they take your trash away
Everywhere else - people pay you to take the stuff away, or just steal it from you, especially copper. -
Couldn't they donate the bikes for the ones in need? I bet people in poor countries who have little access to resources would be thrilled to have a bike...
-
"You have thirty minutes to move your bicycle."
"You have ten minutes to move your bicycle."
"Your bicycle has been impounded."
"Your bicycle has been crushed into a cube."
"You have thirty minutes to move your cube." -
Heck with the bikes - how about that claw?!!
-
Feel a little sad to see the bikes getting crushed.
-
Most places I've stayed in Japan have had area's like these but you haven't had to pay anything, they have been happy enough with the money they make from the scrap merchants,
-
I know here in canada you can sell scrap, I took down my fence not long ago and got 150 bucks for a bit of chain link. good vid, thumbs up
-
Wow so there is a lot of money to be made in scrap metal in Japan.
-
Hmmmm. Seems like someone could refurbish those bikes to be used again.
-
Can someone get one of the bikes for himself?
-
Most medium size and up cities do large item pick ups along with regular garbage pick ups here in the U.S. Small town like mine you have to take it to the scrap yard or pay a guy to take it $50 bucks and he takes whatever will fit on his trailer.

The jaws of death! ;)
-
in my country, we only have to park our bicycle on the street in front of our house, and the bicycle will disappear, regardless you still wanted it or not..
-
Oh you can leave your bike on the side of the road
-
Are there garage sells in Japan or any resale stores?
-
People pick that stuff up for free here in Los Angeles. Bikes, scrap metal, old appliances. I guess its good to be a scrap metal dude in Japan:) Cool video!
-
wish i had something like this here. a dead appliance would cost me $80 for a privateer to come and pick up. and if i had a truck and the help to take it to the dump, they would charge me by weight... so it's no surprise to see a broken freezer or stove sitting by the side of the road.

In Austria we can bring these things to a junkyard for free and they are glad it is so, Otherwise people would just leave the bicycles on the street if they want to get rid of them. So it's quite clean here.
