In this short video I'll share with you which of the many available bike tours I have found necessary to carry on my bicycle touring adventure all around the world. Yes, there are other bike tools you could carry, but these are the tools I've found essential for both short and long-distance bicycle riding anywhere in the world. Hi Darren, me again! Do you ever have to wash your bike while you're touring? I see so many videos on how to wash a bike on you tube... which recommend a number of gadgets needed to do a proper job... Do you even worry about it? LOL

In addition to the above; I've packed spare spokes for both front and rear wheels which means at least 4 spokes, a Kevlar spoke for quick spoke repair (works really well), free hub removal tool, spare quick links for chain, chain tool, a dozen spare nuts and bolts (not only for bike but for panniers), 3-4 spare tubes + 1 spare foldable tire, adjustable wrench, small vise grip, multi-tool with allen wrenches, lockable knife also used for cooking, boot patch kit to fix a tire, small chain cleaner brush. On some bike trips I took a spare quick release spindle (actually used once). I've packed metal tire levers as well as plastic levers (plastic ones break often), duct tape and electricians tape, for those bikes I have that use standard brakes I've taken spare rubber brake pads (been used at least once). My tool supplies often weigh 1-2 kg and I still find that I needed extra parts.

What are your views on glueless patches? Are they as good as/better/worse than patches that you have to glue?

John N. - I'm not able to respond to you directly for some reason, so I'll answer your question here. YES, I have already made a video like that where I discuss touring bicycles at great length, tell you where to buy them, what to look for, how to get them for cheap, etc, etc, etc. That video comes as a free bonus when you buy "The Essential Guide To Touring Bicycles," which you can learn more about on this page: www.touringbicyclebook.com
