We love our Electric Bicycles. Two Hub motors vs a Lightning Rod's Big Block mid drive was raced today. The mxus overheated on the first big climb with both vent holes and statorade oil. The custom wound crystalyte was hotter to touch on the outside than the mxus which was hitting 120 degrees before limiting. I technically won the race I, but won't put too much emphasis on it because 3 people pulled out, and the custom hub motor (my main rival) missed two turns and had a couple of loose wire stops. In future re race I might not be the one finishing first however. The adapter for the sprocket on the motor shafted has also cracked. I need an adapter and you may as well throw in the sprocket and key since it is all mashing up in there again. If the steel grade were better I would be willing to up how much I pay too because the kit can't withstand 3.5kw This disappoints me because 3kw is the bare minimum to be able to run single speed. I will have to go back to gears at bafang power levels otherwise. This is the main thing I need to keep the lightning Rods Big Block kit in the winning position on the race (and also not in the dust collecting category) I will need other things such as spacers for pedals off the bottom bracket. The aluminium crush ones I got (off ebay) as you know in the name = got crushed again. These spacers would have saved me a million headaches of things mangling against each other. I imagine 2mm would be good width. If too wide I can file or grind them down easy enough. I would like an extra tooth on the secondary JS too so I need a new sprocket. I am sad to say I can only predict that the adapter and key would also need to be a higher quality steel, they mangle and mesh into each other so much that its a falacy to think all you need to do is change a "cheap sprocket". whatever steel is running there now is not good enough for me to keep reordering for. In my opinion running chainrings such as the cyclone or sbp chainrings running independently of the Lightning Rods adapter with race face is much more secure. They still have quality issues where the teeth are hooking only after 50ah of 3kw max use. They are still a million times better connection that the 4 bcd. The crossfire threaded is awesome for this. Hope this information is helpful and I can get the parts I need. It was clear that Lightning Rods kit could climb better than the others even at 3kw bogging down at the end of race. I do wish in future to up the voltage even more just to get more flat speed. There's no need for more climbing ability with the gearing I have. It really pulls like a goat. I hope you appreciate the time I take too in documenting the reality of what the lightning Rod's kit can and can't do. I'm tuning it recording it. Would be good to get some love on the race front sponsoring me to hammer the hub motor crew. Without it I know break down territory is not far off in sight. I'd be more than happy to wear an LR shirt, or put a sticker on my helmet or whatever to make this more sport like :) OK I'm dreaming.... A rerun of the race will be up in a month, with a cracked adapter I might not finish it.
