I haven't ridden without a helmet since sometime in the '60s when I was a youngster. I wouldn't dream of getting on my bike without one. I don't do risky stuff, but I still landed directly on my head while mountain biking a few years ago... hit hard enough to destroy my helmet. Thanks helmet.

Do airbags make you drive into other poeple on the road?...

Btw, I believe the riding 'position' at 10:27 is the same as record-setting, uci-pestering Graeme Obree, also known as The Flying Scotsman.

I was watching this video on my lunch and started thinking that I should start wearing a helmet. I have 3 but they all seem too big(7 5/8 head size) for me to get in the drops. Nonetheless, on my way home today I was cut off and I instinctively had a death grip on my brakes. I endo'd over the bars and smacked the side of my head a good bit. I remember most of what happened except I don't remember if I rode home after or walked. With carbon specialized shoes and look cleats I'd like to think I rode, I was just told that I was walking. I had a missed call from my coworker and I called him but he said I already called him back and answered his question. At the ER now because wife, mum, and the 2 EMS ladies pretty much said NO, you're going (women always tag team on us gents). I shrugged the thought in the past but now understand that I shouldn't wear a helmet for me. My family can't be fed by a brain damaged person that can't feed himself. I swear to wear a helmet from here on out.

as for the helmet thing , use your head to save your head , i very rarely use a helmet except on big road rides and i do feel it gives a false sense of security , lets face it , if a car /van / wagon hits you your gonna end up in hozzy or worse :)

i bet mr tang likes his spud's mashed ... ooooh :)

Si did say a "little" bit of extra hope, I believe.

Studies on cars have found the same things. The 'safer' a car is, the more inattentive the driver can become. I don't think anyone should use that to say you shouldn't wear a helmet, but it is something to keep in mind when using things that make you feel safer.

Completely illogical. Since I wouldn't ride my bike at all without a helmet, by definition I'm increasing my level of risk by riding it with one! #duh
