Nice Vid, but it's not a reliable test; you only did one run for each 'discipline.' I would have done 4 or 5 runs and averaged the times. Climbing with clips should always be faster (makes sense)
-
dude.... you are so fucking awesome... can't believe you are not a God!!!! why even continue.we are just idiots living in your world. kill me know. try riding without all your super powers.

I keep falling with clips, and when I fall with clips I end up breaking a rib or dragging the bike down a slope with me. Flats all the way.
-
will never ride clip ever

Noticed the Fenix 3
-
It 100% depends on preference... But none the less, still and awesome video

The problem I have with flat pedals, I'm too used to pulling up with clipless pedals on both road and mountain bikes. Flat pedals contributed to me straining my hamstring.
-
Nice style you have there, I use to be able to ride like that until one day I took a chainsaw to the knee. lol
-
which kind of 5 ten shoes are you using for flats and clipless?
-
What was the tool he used to change the pedals
-
I don't understand how I used to be really confident on flats and I switched to clips a few months ago and now I struggles to ride flats?
-
clip pedals suck big time and are super dangerous. no good except for specifically hill climbs only
-
I think the data does not matter if you only make 1 run with each pedal. Would like to see you in the future make multiple runs if you will do comparisons and than take the data from each side and compare it .
-
I would expect him to be at least 8 seconds faster on the 2nd run since he was more familiar with the trail.
-
Thank you as I do prefer flats and always knew its not the pedals its the rider.
-
what kind of bike do you have?

I broke my shoulder on a really fast trail. There was this rock sticking out and I didn't see it so I went over my bars and landed with all my weight on my shoulder on another rock and heard the biggest crack. I had to ride down the rest of the trail with one hand. It was so painful and in so sad I'm out for 8 weeks now😔

I see these results time and again, flats match or sometimes better clips. I wonder if it mainly shows we don't use the clips to their greatest efficiency, if at all. It has been established that few clip riders actively pull the ascending peddle up but to see these results from an expert rider consciously going for time is really interesting. But like trying to convince a driver that their is no advantage using premium fuel in a car designed for regular, I doubt this will change few minds. I just like being clipped in on my road bike and that's enough.

There's still a vast majority of clipless pedal users, and most of them have so many opinions of why they are so much better and what not. I don't really care. Flatties just feel better and more natural to me, and just are more fun in general. The only downside I will admit is that on narrow trails they do bump into more stuff because of extra width, but that I can live with.
