looks more complicated than a rotary engine with some of the problems of 2 strokes.....
as in everything simple is always better -
And the vibrations?

looks like it could also incorporate variable compression ratio very easily just by dislodging the reciprocator by a certain distance - the same principle used by saab in their variable compression engine.

Eh, any engine that takes a 100 YEARS of development, and it still isn't production quality, is a flawed design; and more likely, a misappropriation of investment funding.

Ну если рассматривать в сравнении с классическим ДВС то особых плюсов не видно.
Плюсы:
Пара поршень-шатун движутся параллельно цилиндру.
Компоновка возможно более компактная.
Минусы:
Пара поршень шатун так же имеют ВМТ и НМТ что влечёт к инерционным потерям, дисбалансу, перегрузке подвижных соединений.
Опорный подшипник нагружен перпендикулярно рычагу снятия момента (потери на трение, износ).
Блок цилиндров не статичный, что повлечет за собой инерционные потери, лишние нагрузки, а масса движущихся частей вряд ли позволит достигать высоких оборотов, что в свою очередь не позволит развивать значимых мощностей.
Центробежные силы действующие на пару поршень-шатун увеличат силу трения на пару трения поршень внешняя-стенка цилиндра, что нивелирует плюсы от параллельного движения поршень-шатун цилиндр.
Сложная конструкция, малая надёжность, требующая высокотехнологичного производства, и больших затрат... -

VERY clever idea, ... but that is where it should stay, ... Electric motors are the way forward now, ..... put your brilliant minds to that, and who knows what you could do.... ?

Interesting design, I assume it sacrifices torque for rpm? If the cylinder/block seal works well, might be really effective in small cars.

the design looks very heavy and massive, with LOTS of seals and possible weak spots. I bet maintenance of that engine would be a nightmare, as it would require total disassembly of the entire "block". Plus: The more moving parts, the more friction and therefore loss of efficiency.
