It’s buttcrack o-clock in the morning, and I just arrived at Markham Park Mountain Bike Trails to do a little riding before work. The coffee is only starting to set in now, and it can’t happen fast enough. As someone who’s not naturally a morning person, it takes a lot to get me out of bed this early, but wouldn’t you know… mountain biking is enough to convince me. The truth though is that doing your favorite activity before work or school can make you a happier, more productive person. I can’t think of much that would upset me after riding trails for 2 hours. I think most mountain bikers could say the same. At this time of day you’ll have the trails mostly to yourself, especially during the week. When you’re the only one crazy enough to ride this early, you’ll reap the benefits. Chances are, you’re not going to find many friends who agree to meet you out this early. Sure, they’ll talk a hard game the night before, until it’s time to get up and they sleep through your text messages. I like riding alone anyway, as it gives me time to think. This early in the day you’ll hit the trails with a clear head. Because you’re doing something you like you’ll be thinking about happy stuff, like new bike parts, and tacos. Here at Markham park, the early birds seem to stay off the black diamond stuff. I don’t know if that’s just in my experience, or if early birds are more sensible than I am. Either way, I’m glad nobody is around. To make these videos I ride through the trails one handed carrying a tripod. Once the sun crests the horizon, it gives off a warm orangey hue, and casts shadows everywhere. Photographers and videographers refer to this as golden hour, when everything looks awesome. It’s just you, the sound of your cassette, and golden sun beams peeking through the trees as you ride your troubles away. When you get to work, or school, you’ll start off on the right foot, ready to tackle whatever life throws at you. If this sounds like a great way to start the day, then what are you waiting for? If you set your alarm now you can still get 3 or 4 hours of sleep, and then nap when you get off work. It’ll be worth it, trust me. T-Shirts http://www.sethsbikehacks.com/product/hardtail-shirt/
