On a visit to Kalkhoff eBikes in Portland, OR, we found out more about the niche for electric bicycles, which help commuters get around town on two wheels without breaking a sweat. Retail manager Todd Peres explains the advantages of an electric bike over an ordinary bicycle or gas-powered scooter, how the electric assist mechanism works, and even the laws that separate these bikes from their larger road-going cousins.
