Explained - Mountain Bike Suspension Forks

Choosing the right fork for your mountain bike can be tricky, especially given the variety of choice. Marc is here to make things a little clearer! Click here to Subscribe to GMBN: http://gmbn.eu/Subscribe In this video, we go through the differences in forks and how those differences change how the bike reacts and feels. For example, a dual crown fork will be stiffer than a single crown, but you pay the penalty with added weight. The type of fork you choose will depend on the type of riding you do. Cross Country mountain bikers will go for a lighter fork with less travel compared to a downhill MTB with more travel and a little more bulk to deal with the rougher terrain. Can I upgrade from 80mm travel to 100mm?

Thank you, very informative! Just shelled out for some 2nd hand Fox Floats (26", QR, 1 1/8") for a new build I just started. The guy posted them with all the air let out, I removed the cap & it looks like a standard schrader valve in there. Do I need a specific fork pump or can I do it with any other pump which I can fit onto the valve? Cheers!

is it 'natural' to put a dual crown dh fork on a hardtail? Will I get weird stares from people or no?
-
On some bikes I see a piece of material going from the crown to the lower

does downhill forks have lockout ?

i have suntour xc shocks on my 29er, they have a little yellow sticker saying not to ride downhill, trial or do dirt jumping. is that just to cover their ass because it is a XC bike or will the shocks break if i done some small jumps and hops on a downhill section of a trail? i do weigh more than the average rider as i got the bike to get back in shape, so is their a front fork you would recommend i replace it with? for now i mostly do flat ground riding but i am wanting to get into more undulating and higher skilled tracks as my confidence returns.
i am not sure what steerer i have but i think it is the old one, defiantly not tapered though. -
I have a full sis bike and after rides I always notice the rear shock is shiny with a film of oil on it. Is it common to see this? The bike is fairly new and ridden maybe a 100 miles. If it needs seals can they be replaced externally or do I need to send it to fox?
