Review of Motobecane Boris X9 Fatbike

The benefits of going tubeless eluded me for a long time. I tried it back in the early 2000s and hated it. Beads did not hold, tires punctured as often as tubed tires, .... Around 2011 I tired it again and will never go back. Both tires and rim bead designs have improved a lot. The ride quality and traction are remarkably better. The number of flats I have had while running tubeless on MTB, CX and road in 25000 miles since then is less than 10, dramatically less than when I used tubes. And yes when the pressure is right, the setup feels so much faster to me.

I got the Boris X9 with the Rock Shox Bluto fork. It's my first Fat bike, also my first hard tail. Been riding a GT full suspension iDrive for 14 yrs with Shimano drive train. I really like the Sram 2x10 on this bike. The shifters and whole X9 drivetrain is so much better than my old Shimano XT stuff. The bike handles great. I got the air pressures and fork dialed in on the first ride. Congrats on yours and enjoy. For right at $1k, I know I'll be enjoying mine.

How heavy is it? Would this be cumbersome as a commuter?

Yes Ray, this bike will definitely hold up. I'm 6'1", 240.

The x9 has better components. Brakes, drive train, shifters and tires.

So why did you not get the x7 I'm contemplating about getting the x7 or x9

I love my X9, but the Vee tires are junk, I replaced them a few days after I got it.
