I live in southern Indiana and work in Louisville Kentucky, Foster Brooks home town. My father in law was good friends with Mr. Brooks. I cant understand why the city does not honor him like they should, Many streets are named after blacks, but nothing for great people like Foster Brooks, Call it what you want. R. I. P. Mr. Brooks you are missed.

Hello-He Talked Liked This As A Drunk, It was always part of his act
-
Foster Brooks was in a league of his own!

What a funny, funny man. Foster never forgot his hometown, Louisville, Ky. For many years Foster hosted a Pro-Am Golf Tournament here in Lou. for a local Children's Hospital. Movie stars, TV stars, Music stars and politicians showed up every year. Bob Hope, Roy Clark, Johnny Bench, Arnold Palmer, Pres. Gerald Ford the list could go on and on. The Tournament drew 15 to 20,000 people every year.

Not funny

No disrespect to Foster Brooks, whom I love, but this joke is not his original. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!) It actually goes back at least to the first half of the twentieth century. It was among the many tales traditionally told by the Appalachian mountain folk, and I believe it was among the stories collected by Richard Chase and published in his "Grandfather Tales: American-English Folk Tales." There, the preacher's name was Old Dry Frye. There are other great stories with Dry Frye, and he's usually the brunt of the joke.

whose knows what he could have been in if he started earlier than he did he was almost sixty when he started the dean Martin roasts
-
Does he always talk like that? Looks like his earlier work it was funnier.
-
Anyone know what year this was? Had to be in the 90s
-
Very hard to do what he did he was brilliant at what he did, but more importantly very very funny.
-
Brooks was a teetotaler. Basically he didn't drink any alcohol...EVER. Supposedly, he was so good at acting drunk, that one time he tried his little stunt after being pulled over, and ended up arrested for a DUI.

Love this one, showed the family they loved it too !!!
