Getting dressed while riding a bicycle (Netherlands)
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
The Dutch are known for doing just about anything while they ride their bikes. Talking in their mobile phones or even texting can be seen a lot. But this is different! After a day at the city beach a guy suddenly realizes that he is still bare chested and town is approaching. It seems only appropriate to put on a shirt. Stopping to do that would of course be the smart thing to do, but that is not an option for this guy. He puts on his shirt while he is riding his bike. It is helpful that there is no other traffic than bicycles on this cycle path, and he must be riding his bike all his life, but still, not the smartest thing to do... and don't try this at home! Imagine this: A woman riding her bike during the winter in a busy street. One child behind her, one in the front. Two bags filled with groceries on her steering wheel. She calling someone while putting on her jacket. Normal day for any Dutch person. I would LOVE to see the faces of people from foreign countries...

It looks like the guy had back pedal brakes anyway, so stopping would not matter much on his hands.
-
If he falls he would only hurt himself, maybe make other cyclists have to pass him, but cyclists can do that a lot easier than a car or truck can.
-
Lekker moeilijk doen :P
-
I've done this also several times... it's not so hard, normal
-
Quote "and don't try this at home!" I will not there is not enough room! ;-)
-
Awww! I don't see this as dumb at all. He was no danger to himself or anyone else and was in complete control of the bike all the time. I was watching it thinking, - is he? isn't he? gonna get that sleeve turned in the right way before he has to give up and put his feet on the ground to finish the job. Here's hoping that one day we can be as laid back about cycling here in the UK. Although I doubt it as too many health and safety rules/laws here. Sad isn't it?

but then, instead of "The Cool T-shirt Wearing Biker on Youtube", he would just be "thuis, 40 seconds earlier (than who?)". Three-minute-lasting-sex is also highly efficient. but who cares?
-
But that would have been boring... This is how we roll here ;-)
-
Funny vid. Thanks for the eye-candy. ;-)
-
this is not Berlin... and I think indeed you'd better (relax a bit) ;-)
-
Well, you may be right. It's just that I see people like that nearly every day in Berlin in motorized traffic indeed and I hate these guys riding in front of me or - even worse - riding in the wrong direction towards me on a single lane (german width!) cycle path. I then only want to stick something between their spokes. With a bit of mental training, I might be able to relax about this issue - but I just don't want to relax in this case ;-)
-
You shouldn't take this so seriously. In the Dutch context, considering where he rode and who rode in front of him (clearly his friends) and how experienced Dutch cyclists are, there was absolutely no danger in this for anyone but himself. And the worst thing that could have happened was a fall. Considering his 'speed' or better, the lack of it, that wouldn't have harmed him much either. Doing this around motorised traffic would have been foolish but here it was perfectly okay.

Mark, I love your videos a lot, but I see no point in featuring idiots. We all know that they exist, but they keep on being idiots even if on video. In this case: if I had been the one infront of him and had to brake hard, he would have smashed into me.
-
I love it; cycling's so relaxed in the Nederlands.
-
OK... now let's see you put on socks...
-
So you're saying he's doing something dumb, and he knows it. OK.
-
Of course! I bet even he knows that ;-)
-
I do this all the time... But I'm Dutch.

It would've been quicker and safer to stop, put on the shirt, then put the hammer down for a couple seconds to make up for lost time.
