Never try to read too much into sponsorship deals, as it is simply advertising. Bike companies have to pay a lot of $ to the team, in addition to providing the bikes. By sponsoring a race team for a couple of years, you get many years of street cred from the experience, as well as real world feedback for developing your bikes. GT had a good run and did their time with Jelly Belly. I think Focus was the next maker to take the team after them. Its just $ and business ... nothing more.
